research how a sphere works
i know how a sphere works it was the way you wrote it up that had me confused, i edited that post about 6 times after the fact. The "at the wall" threw me as its not "at the wall" its "out of the regulated metered power supply" but i get the euphemism.

thanks for the data, i wasnt criticizing, i was trying to contribute

Fine, you can pay for the next round of tests!lol...................it's a baseline, take from it what you will
i think its great data and like i said in line with what we would expect. i should have a small sphere in the next month or so to do chip tests at least so you'll see lots of data from this end for sure. im trying to create a database of real-world performance of all the common chips out there vs temp and current that would eliminate mfr bias

focusing on low-current region which is largely ignored by the chip mfrs.

think of it as the consumer reports of chips.

i recently got some chinese chips for testing that were so far out of spec - 3000K chips testing at 3700K on the spectrometer. if there are manufacturers out there that have loose tolerances on color or output in their chips we want to figure it out. same concept to identify the chips that outperform their datasheet or have excessive bin variation, etc. is a 3500k from one manufacturer closer to another mfr's 3000k or 4000k? what is he actual QER/LER for chips which have "typical" spectrums in their datasheets? what about the effect of spectral shift on QER/LER?

this kind of testing will put you in the poorhouse if youre paying a lab. only way to answer these questions is to get a sphere and keep it busy

numbers, data ,blah,blah,#S#S#S+-/======== PPF/W.............<this is what matters, you don't want to read my pms,lol....................I know i'm the asshole for this, sure.

we're hovering around 40% system efficiency not 60%........I'm a big fan of supra and company, and don't want to take away anything from his years of great contributions==== did the best they could with what they had at the time, problem was the info available was inaccurate.

Watt for watt It's a BIG jump from fluoros, crappy epiled, not HPS.........

Doesn't matter what diff lens/reflectors/drivers/cobs(citi,b-lux,cree).........not hitting anything near 60% system efficiency in the real world atm

the online tools and calculators are worthless........... topbin cxb cobs/meanwell drivers/beefy cooliance pinsinks that was tested, barely broke 1.9 BARE. Quality Angelina reflectors rob you of 9%, lenses are way worse(I've seen the #s)....don't listen to the bs that vendors are spewing about them, not breaking the laws of physics== with them on you will be around/below 1000w DE new with current cobs

Thanks for getting this organized and done, P! It's about time we see some real numbers and not just some estimates / bold claims based on spreadsheets by these mathemagicians and non-growers that have plagued RIU in the recent past.
Amen to that! Good job @PSUAGRO and everyone involved.
I didn't do shit except blow up some inboxes, this all comes down to dan(timber) and nick(nextlight)............could have easily said it was private , they allowed the public share..............very cool of them, love it, great thing they did for us.

I can't help you if you can't comprehend the post.........i'm lazy and it was a copy/paste job from nick(see quotes in the post)

Low current/more chips ATM is bad business $$$$$$$,hence the ignoring, if a diy(efficiency enthusiast ) grower wants it and doesn't care what it costs, that's another story

bare chip/small sphere means shit on system level.........you know, like the finished panels we hang over our grows and need real#s ............no offence

Cree hit 300lm/w in the lab, if it those same chips barely break 150lm/w in my grow fixture===== guess which one I care about?:)

if you did feel like sharing you can plot it in excel and post a small pic
you really want to read hundreds of points per source?............I just got a new win 10 laptop, maybe I'll figure it out

I thought osram zelion would break 2ppf/w, was wrong..........never disassembled the damn thing and realized they skimped on the drivers and used THICK pmma lenses. I'm far from an expert myself but the sphere never lies:) their is a reason why nick doesn't want to release the #s on them.

well I dont think anybody was claiming 60% *system* effciiency when the popular 3500K setup was 56% chip efficiency x 92% driver efficiency minus any optics. mid 40s is realistic and what anybody who thought the system through would expect that performance (for the same reason that 2100 umol hps bulbs are 1500-1700 in real life). Supras numbers are still accurate youre just interpreting them wrong.

Doesn't matter what diff lens/reflectors/drivers/cobs(citi,b-lux,cree).........not hitting anything near 60% system efficiency in the real world atm
well maybe not with your 3000K setup pushed medium hard on a midrange-efficiency driver with optics....not sure if you were expecting to get 60% system efficiency starting with a chip thats in the low 50s itself. obviously you understand that there are 3 bin levels above the one you tested. 1400 mA is by no means a frugal current thats $0.70/watt in cree land and $0.30-$0.50/watt in other manufacturers - i dont think that 700 mA is really all that extreme

60% system efficiency is easily possible. with a big LES 5000K or 6500K 70 cri at 700 mA or less, pushing into the mid 60s at the chip level, and a 96% efficient driver and no optics. id bet money on 58-61% system efficiency all day long on that. and chips are only getting better all the time so we will soon be there with 4000K, then 3000K.
bare chip/small sphere means shit on system level.........
its actually one of, if not the largest factor in the overall efficiency calculation

numbers, data ,blah,blah,#S#S#S+-/======== PPF/W.............<this is what matters, you don't want to read my pms,lol....................I know i'm the asshole for this, sure.

we're hovering around 40% system efficiency not 60%........I'm a big fan of supra and company, and don't want to take away anything from his years of great contributions==== did the best they could with what they had at the time, problem was the info available was inaccurate.

I didn't do shit except blow up some inboxes, this all comes down to dan(timber) and nick(nextlight)............could have easily said it was private , they allowed the public share..............very cool of them, love it, great thing they did for us.

I can't help you if can't comprehend the post.........i'm lazy and it was a copy/paste job from nick(see quotes in the post)

Cree hit 300lm/w in the lab, if it those same chips barely break 150lm/w in my grow fixture===== guess which one I care about?:)

you really want to read hundreds of points per source?............I just got a new win 10 laptop, maybe I'll figure it out

I thought osram zelion would break 2ppf/w, was wrong..........never disassembled the damn thing and realized they skimped on the drivers and used THICK pmma lenses. I'm far from an expert myself but the sphere never lies:) their is a reason why nick doesn't want to release the #s on them.
Thanks for the breakdown bro, much easier to decifer that way lol.i like the sounds of 300lm/w how do we do that :)

well I dont think anybody was claiming 60% *system* effciiency when the popular 3500K setup was 56% chip efficiency x 92% driver efficiency minus any optics. mid 40s is realistic and what anybody who thought the system through would expect that performance (for the same reason that 2100 umol hps bulbs are 1500-1700 in real life)

well maybe not with your 3000K setup pushed medium hard on a midrange-efficiency driver with optics....

but its easily possible. with a big LES 5000K or 6500K 70 cri at 700 mA or less, pushing into the mid 60s at the chip level, and a 96% efficient driver and no optics. id bet money on 58-61% system efficiency all day long on that. and chips are only getting better all the time so we will soon be there with 4000K, then 3000K.

its actually one of, if not the largest factor in the overall efficiency calculation
read again topbin cxb, most popular mah by sales(not pushing it really), efficient meanwell, NO OPTICS.

Of course you would say that COBkits..................PROVE IT then

I'm sorry you can't afford a real sphere........again I care about not misinforming growers & #s being put out in a GROW room

no but check this out

the online tools and calculators are worthless........... topbin cxb cobs/meanwell drivers/beefy cooliance pinsinks that was tested, barely broke 1.9 BARE.
saying the online calculators are worthless is like saying a hammer is worthless for driving screws. if you are using the tool appropriately they are excellent resources. cree pct, bggrass's java app, and others even have a handy box for entering driver/system efficiency. im not sure how a 4000K DB bin chip at 1400 mA testing exactly where we would expect it to in an 80-85% efficient system is a referendum on the validity of the online calculator tools but maybe im missing something

The Raw data, not that anyone will read this shit...................I just wanted the ppf/w

can't post the spectral data(nm), waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long

osram ssl80 660nm kits(3 measurements till warm up)..........their from ledtech.de, not top bin but close
trom...
these mathemagicians and non-growers that have plagued RIU in the recent past
... a more readable view.

have trouble with understanding the ratio of blue in the spectrum. way to low for me
and what is TMP(Deg)

WPE - Wall plug eff. - System efficients

TMP could be temp inside the sphere with a light cookin at steady state for awhile. if so 150F ambient is really high and would affect the flux for sure. i think the line between blue and green range is somewhat arbitrary - look how high the green is

A guy that has owned a sphere for years and has tested countless chips(still does) and tells me the first thing he learned are that online calculators "don't work" VS someone who just started his cob/diy business who gave wrong driver info months ago and got corrected by GG..........hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

YOU DON"T HAVE ANYTHING TO VERIFY THE VALIDITY OF YOUR CLAIMS...............pretty simple, spend some money and get back to us............ill eat crow, nick too

if your trying to get this thread closed like GG's because it may hurt your business it's not happening........i'm not going fucking anywhere! unless they ban me..........you can work on that one

Spectral data is four colums and over 10000 characters .........so ill split it up
