Testing ph for soil and moisture question

Hello all
Two part question here. Do you ph test your water and salt fert mixes for a soil grow? Also regarding watering soil do you wait until the top inch is dry but the pot still has some weight to it or do you bypass feeling the soil and just pick up the pot to feel the weight? All indoor 7 gallon plastic pots. Thanks

Okay I'm going to have to buy a new ph tester. Is it worth it? Is this what I've been missing? Haven't ph tested anything forb3 grows

Imo it doesn’t matter what top inches of soil is doing, ideally always dry (bottom feeding).

if not sure when to water, wait for first sign of under watering. The pot should feel dry/light. If starting in your 7 gal. pot (I wouldn’t),...

if watering sooner than that, water 1 plant and see it’s response 24 hours later, to make sure no sign overwater.

To test medium ph, for me, just make soil wet then gently press ph pen in it, few spots to make sure consistency. or put some of your soil in smaller pot and slowly water until just enough water comes out to ph test

ideally your soil is ideal ph to begin so you don’t need to ph waterings, soil itself does the adjustment
