Tent Vs wooden box

hello everyone its been a long time since I've posted but I'm trying to get things together for my second fluorescent grow and will post up a big thread on my plans and will be seeking advice and more opinions for now though I just need some experienced opinions on a custom built wooden box bs a tent

my first grow was done in. Large storage container it worked out well but way to hard to get everything to fit and seal

this time I thought for sure IDE build a wooden box so I could cut whatever I needed to size ... Looking around google though I found a tent that will fit my space perfectly 4x2x5 now my concerns ... I plan on using a growbright four foot four tube t5 fixture.. Will this fit ? Or do I really need to allow a few extra inches on the length. With the wooden idea I was just going to raise or lower the fixture on a rope ratchet system .. Since I'm assuming I can't screw anything into th top of the tent can I securely put this fixture in without it pulling in the roof and how can I raise or lower it ? And I would like to add a few cfls ffor side lighting .. Will this be possible

my other concern is my exhaust I have a growbright 4 inch imline fan with fresh air filter on the passive intake and carbon filter on the exhaust .. With the wooden box I was going to build a separate insulated box on top of my grow box to house the fan to reduce the noise.. With the tent be seen people just hang them in the tent and connect the ducting .. Will this make a huge noise difference?

do the extra pre cut holes on the tent that I will not be using come with something to cover them and prevent light leaks ?

sorry if this is confusing thanks for any help

edit .. I'm really looking for experience here the tents seem flimsy and easily collapsible but I've never seen one in person so idk if that's fair to say or not .. The wooden box I know will be the sturdiest way to go but will be about 150 $ more expensive and a huge headache to build

Tents are definitely not as sturdy as a purpose-built box or cabinet, but in my opinion the ease of breakdown and assembly and the convenience far outweigh the negatives.

I built a room in my 3 rooms in my garage using 2x4 and drywall. Sturdy and doesnt look out of place. Imo forget the tents keep your money. If it needs to be torn down its just a few screws a swing a hammer here and there. Just my 2 cents

I have both and the DIY box is much better for hanging/modifying anything compared to the tent. Box is 2x4x5.5' and I can veg 3 good size plants in 5gal or 4x medium plants in 3gal. I use the tent for mainly breeding or SOG with any extra plants/clones/seedling I end up with but don't screw around with modifying any lights or equipment in there as I find it limited and flimsy. imo go with a tent for temporary purposes or special projects but build a box if it's your only space and longer term. You can also make it look like anything you want so stealth is a definite plus for a DIY box. I'll be combining the box and tent space into a proper 2x4 framed room this winter.

Here's 3x 5gal plants that were just moved into flowering. They were vegged for 7 weeks in the box before putting them into my flower room.

Is the light fixture real heavy? Most of the tents are made for hanging lights and filters from the top. They sell the ropes with clips and ratchets to raise and lower easy. I think it's called 'sun grip'. Think you could put the fan on top(outside of tent) as well if you needed. The shiney material in the tents is great to but you could line your wooden box if you wanted. My tent was fairly cheap and is quite sturdy.

thanks for the quick replies . It all be in place for the next year or so . So somewhat temp .. Chemo be . That sounds like a greatsetup unfortunately my box will be going into a closet with sliding doors almost impossible to seal the light pit . The whole reason for the box .. Groerr. Unfortunately I don't have the space for two boxes or IDE take your advice mine needs to be an all purpose box ill probably only veg 2 to 3 weeks before going into flowering

I have three grow tents, all from Lighthouse Hydro. I have NEVER had any issues with them whatsoever. I can hang my lights, filter and fan from the top, then I put a piece of plywood on top of my large tent, and keep two 6.6 gallon auto-drip reservoirs on it. I also have a random assortment of other stuff in there. This particular tent I'm speaking of above I've had for two years. That's two years of opening and closing zippers every day at least once.

They are very convenient to tear down and move (and store), and if necessary, can be patched up to look like a clothing wardrobe.
