tent modifications

Ok so I have been growing in tents for about 3 yrs now. I run 600s in a 4x8 for flower and a 400mh in a 4x4 for veg. I recently moved from the Midwest to seatac area and sold my 3yr old 4x8 home box tent. I have the 4x4 secret jardin set up in thebasement on one side of the room and it just barely fit when I was setting it up. The room is taller on the side the 4x4 is on but not long enough to fit a 4x8 and still b able to use the stairs. The other side of the room is easily an inch shorter. So my actual question is for all you who tent grow, do u think its a bad idea to buy the new 4x8 and just cut the vertical poles by an inch or do u think I should just build a room from scratch?

build one. would probably cost you less.

I don't know about cost or anything, but being able to sit down and think about your exact space what you need and where you need it and then being able to follow that plan is way better than just buying a box and having to work around it's design. Especially when it comes to your flowering area. Grow tents are built pretty well for their purpose, but I really don't know about chopping into them. Have a forest a week from harvest and it collapses under the weight of your hanging reflectors . I would rather avoid that. Good luck, Good grow, Be safe, out.

He's used to tents, let him stick with what he knows.
Cutting one inch off of each vertical post
shouldn't have any problems structural wise but
remember the tent is the same height as the uncut
poles. Good luck.

Cut the poles with a fine-toothed hacksaw (or a plumber's copper tube cutter). Quick and easy.

After all, it's only an inch, so if you move the tent it won't be like you're missing a foot or anything

Taking an inch off the poles will make the tent baggy on the frame, looks like a fat girl with tight pants on all muffin-top. You can probably just tuck the excess(if noticeable) under the tent.

Thanks for the advice guys. I kno building would b cheaper on materials but I would also have to buy the tools and the price all together would be close to the tent price. So thts y I think i will just go with a tent, I will just try and cut as little as possible off it

I think it will make your tents m2 a lot smaller if the ventilation kicks in, unless you find a way to nip tuc that excess fabric.
An idea might be to actually stich a few lines. Or if your misses has a sowing machine, have her adapt the fabric.
To avoid light leakage and tearing, you could use a good duct tape to finish the sowing edges.

Side note, you could put up blocking material (anything 1" or more thick) along any point you want to attach the tent, and attach the tent to the blocking material. Think of building an exoskeleton instead. If the tent is tight between the mounting points, it won't balloon or invert when the pressure changes from the vent/heat/AC, and you don't have to put many holes in the walls (all the tent mounts to is the blocking material)

The only other reason I'm lerry about building my own room is making sure its super sealed cuz I run co2 and don't want any he armies and I haven't built my own before
