Tent help

Lets say that half of 8 of the three way corner connectors are missing.
They are made of an unknown metal.

Could a pvc corner handle the same amount of weight as the metal ones it is replacing? I was thinking maybe if they are used in the base so there is nothing hanging off the top it would be safe….
also concerned about connecting metal rods into the pvc, will the fit be as secure as metal into metal?

Alternatively does anyone know where I can buy some 5/8 inch three way connectors made of metal?

New question. What is the easiest material of metal tubing for welding that will still maintain a strong bond (this bond should be capable of holding at least 300 pounds)? I have no welding specific tools.

your best bet is to take one of the corners u do have and take it to a metal shop

tell them copy it and bring one of the pipes that has to fit inside of it to make the frame

u doing it on your own trust me just pay someone to make what u need if they mess up u do not pay until it right and saves u on the cost of messing up

But what if he's a plumber with tons of extra copper tubes and solder line?

May be some hose clamps too!

i am a moonshiner i know how easy u can bend copper ........no good the amount of stress the corners will have with the weight of the gear .....no not worth the chance ........pvc will crack from the UV exposure (called sun baked if u leave a pipe out to long the color will go from white to a off white/grey and the pipe will break )

something like this is it better to invest a few bucks
odds they would use aluminum air craft grade .....or a piece of 18 gauge rolled and welded close

it all depends on what the shop has cci machines could do it all out of one piece to spec in one try ........if they are not running projects odds they would do it for the cost of the materials and few bucks for power and time .....it allows them to clear out some stock metals or smaller pieces so they can buy the new stuff little higher cost and then charge little more for work

try looking at some handrail suppliers or boat trim supply houses. they should run around $4 for galvanized steel and stainless around $15. they will have threaded allen head bolts to hold them or you could get the weldons and drill your own holes. the hand rail stuff goes from 1/2" and up, the boat stuff should size about the same. you also could get it in cast lron at ornamental iron supply houses.

What brand tent? Many offer replacement parts. I ordered some GrowLab hangers recently.

Just get on ebay and buy some new plastic corners.

Steel pipes..the idea is sound,just not implemented and the kinks worked out.
Don't moonshiners use mud chunk/caulk for small pressure leaks in their stills?

oatmeal or rice flour or flour and salt

that is just to patch leaks on the joints

I quit drinking,but did like some shine when I get bent...lots in my area...that moonshine show is filmed near here...

pff, tent repair. I can do it blindfolded and i dont even own one. you can find replacements online or at grow stores, but i just used a piece of wood with the 3 holes on each corner on several on my buddies tents, boom good as new.

@BigTexan LOL i actually made one of these and it does hold but I don't trust it over time… maybe if i had two screws instead of just one, but there isn't a lot of room for extra screws because of the size of the tubes… i'm thinking if I start with one solid block of wood and just drill some holes then I may have something that I trust to hold the weight pics to follow when I get up to get my camera

@justugh Can i protect the PVC from cracking with a few layers of aluminum foil ?

I'm bonding some pipes i had cut (it was either PVC or copper and like you said, copper is absolutely too flimsy) using a waterproof clay epoxy (aka some kind of industrial mud). Its got some fancy core which i mix with the outer shell to activate it. Think it will hold up under pressure? (I read some reviews of people using this stuff to hold furniture up and fix pipes so i'm optimistic.)

(the seller is a giant dill hole who doesn't give half a fuck and doesn't care to find the correct parts)

i used cotter pins before and it was nice and snug on each tent didnt have any problems, not yet lol havent heard of anything.

I put screws in this prototype and some of the pieces can still turn, cotter pins look like big screws to me… will just one keep it tighter than a screw?

alright if u are going this method sun baking can be handled with spray paint (flat white spray paint)

u never want to use foil ...it does not do what u think in fact it helps cause more heat issue for u ........if u have too always pick a flat white paint
when u do it i would use some 45 degree angle ones so u can have 2 points of attachment and strength it to pass the weight over it (to do it u need to place them in right so will need math or a mock up before u fit it all in and seal up

PVC pipe is still pretty weak as u stretch it out like most things.......so before u leave the store look at pieces of wood/dowel rods/steel bars to slip into the pipe to fill it out and give it strength

go to the store and get shlack or something else and coat it nice and good .........then wrap ductape around it

I've got spray paint! And you're paint idea checks out on google Thanks I would have never even thought about the effect of light on pvc.

The plan is to fill any gaps with caulk (either a silicone waterproof one or the regular white stuff). Theres only a gap of about a 1/8 of an inch so i think either of those should be ok… i maybe could fit a super thin copper tube in there instead but i'm thinking that it will be so thin the caulk will end up being stronger.
