can I fit a 600 watt hps light cooled by 6 inch inline fan in a 2foot deep 4 foot wide 5 foot high tent with temps in good range cant seem to find a 6 ft one with same specs just wondering if heat will be a issue

hard to say. im sure it's doable, but i forsee heat problems. there are several pretty big factors here. is your 6 inch inline fan high velocity? what is the CFM rating? in sure you will need an air cooled hood for the light which im assuming you have. another big factor is what is the temp in your room that the tent is in? will you be able to add cold air from outside or an ac?

personally i wouldnt do it. im with redzone and say go 4x4. couple years ago i had a 600 in a 5x5 tent at a friends. it was a hot summer and they had no ac. didnt turn out anything like the previous grow that we only did with a 400. other factors were to blame too but heat was a pretty bad culprit. also some ballasts allow you to turn down the wattage eliminating some heat, but unfortunately reducing your yields as well.

htg supply has decent tents. think next time im gonna go with velcro over zipper though. zippers get shitting after a while. velcro is easy to replace.

yes it is doable. I have a 2x3x5. I have a 400 watt (not air cooled) in there. I keep 280 cfm blowing in plus the netting for ambient air and pulling 460 from a 6" with carbon filter. Ambient temperatures are around 67. It runs 73-79.

89or a 600w HID I'd want a 3x3x6 tent or 4x4x6 tent.In a 3x3 you'll be supplying 66.66w per square foot and 10,000 lumens per square foot (right on the money,sweet spot).

I'd do a 4x4x6 with a 600w-1kw HID.The 1kw HID would net you 62.5w per square foot and 9,062.5 lumens per square foot.

Rule of thumb is 50w per square foot minimum for best results and IME anywhere from 8,000-10,000 lumens per square foot is golden.

I once had a 400w HPS in a mills pride c13 (2'x2.5'x6') and that put me at 80w per square foot and 10,000 lumens per square foot...chunky chunky buds, but heat was a bit of an issue using 1x 4" 170cfm inline exhaust fan to both aircool the light and ventilate the 5 square foot garden.Would have been easier to manage had I gone with a 6" 440cfm inline exhaust fan to both airvool the light and ventilate...or bought a second 4" 170cfm inline so I could use one just for aircooling the light and the second for just ventilation.

I currently use a 400w HPS in a 3x3x6 tent, hung bare bulb vertical with the same 4" inline and a small fan pointed up at the bulb with 4 to 5 plants surrounding the bulb.If using just tent measurements that's 44.44w per square feet and 5,555 lumens per square foot. But since the plants take up space around the bulb instead of underneath it we can say the light foot print is just under 3x3...more like 2.75x2.75 or 2.5x2.5, which puts me at 52.89w to 64w per square foot and 6,611.57 to 8,000 lumens per square foot.Still allows me to yield more than I would with same light in the same 3x3x6 tent growing horizontally because growing horizontally you can only have a 3x3 (9 square foot) canopy, where as by growing 4 plants in the same tent but using the bulb vertically I now get four 3x3 (9 square foot) canopies...that's 4x as much canopy space, and less larf because of better usage of light.

I run a 600w HPS in a 4x4 tent with an air-cooled hood with 6 inch venting and a 440cfs fan. It brings the temp up in the tent at least 10 degrees between "night" and "day". A 600w in such a small space is going to add a lot of heat to your plants.

Also, the height of my tent is 6'8", and my hood is almost at the top of the tent by the time my indica strain is done growing. With a 5 foot tent, your plant height will be very limited and likely growing into your light. Sativas will get even taller, so that is a consideration for you. I did a lot of comparing tent sizes before my first grow, and I'm very happy with my 4x4. Yes, it takes up a little more space, but it's also nice to be able to stand inside of it when I'm hanging lights, vents, checking plants, etc. Make sure whatever tent you get is going to hold up to you going in and out of it daily for several months straight. Cheaper products aren't always cheaper in the long run. I am really glad I paid a little more for a good quality tent, because that zipper gets a lot of use!

my fan rating is 440 cfm I cant fit a bigger tent in the space im working with my space is about 26 by 48 by 75 or so inches
as far as tents go, you willl need an intake fan in addition to your exhaust fan, otherwise your tent walls will suck in and your grow space will be reduced.

so basically what you guys are saying is using a 600 isn't gonna be any benefit or difference than using a 400 in that space? I would probably have a better yield with a 400? im really on planning to do 1 or 2 plants

i would really go with a 400w and 4x4 tent. i know ppl are telling you to go higher and it is definitely doable. but do you really want to spend all that time fighting heat? 600w depending on your outside temp, you may need to add an ac or at least will have to spend more time on figure out the cooling. where i live winter grows are the best. we have cold winters and very hot summers.

especially if your just starting out, start small and build up.

oh and just 1 or 2 plants, i would fim and/or lst the fuck out of them. get branches everywhere. you can actually get a nice yeild off just 2 plants if you veg right.

im actually down grading I had a 4 x 8 x 7 running but gotta go back to stealth I think a 400 watt hps cooled by a 6 inch inline fan will cool it enough I think 600 would be pushing it I had a 600 in a 4 x 4 x 7 and temps ranged from 77-86 usually depending if ac was on and room temp
