Tent advice and tips

I've been dialing in my tent for awhile now, with little success.
I have lost a full run of clones I put in the tent (I make my own an have plenty)
At this point I think I have it some what down...
But I'm looking for any advice or tips.

To get started I'll tell you guys about my setup, throw some questions out and put up some pics.

I have a 4x4x7 tent with a 1thousand watt adjustable ballast a very lrg 6"hood and a 6" inline 400cfm fan exhausting the air out sometimes...
(The reason I say sometimes is because when ever I turn the fan on the planet look shitty)
I've had the new current batch of clones in the tent for a few days shy of two weeks an have been running the MH about 3 and half feet above plants at 400watts with the zippers open on the tent And that seems to be what the plants like best
Temps stay around high 78-79
Like this

If I turn the exahust fan on with the ballast set to 400 the temps go around 67-68

If I turn the ballast to 600 with the exahust on temps go to 72-73
But the plants don't seem to like it

The next thing I wanted to get into is I haven't given the plants any bites yet just water
I want to flower soon as I have a lot of plants so I was wondering if they can be started off on transition nutes

Any tips anything would be great
I'm just trying to figure my airs circulation out and right amount of light at what height

Here's some pics some of the clones looke a lot better than other

Maybe you Guys can let me know if the new growth looks normal or not

Thanks for lookinimage.jpgimage.jpg image.jpgximage.jpgimage.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

You may want to try a speed controller on your exhaust fan. I use speed controllers on both my intake and exhaust fans. It really helps control both the temperature and air flow. Try to keep the temps in the low to mid 70's.

Like Hookah said ^^^, I wouldn't give any nutes quite yet, the new growth looks good for now. Don't want to burn them. But when you do start giving nutes start slow, like 1/4 strength, there still going to be some nutes in the soil.

I wouldn't use Transition until right before you're going to flower the plants. It's designed just for the first three weeks of flower. Use their vegetive formula until that time.

One last suggestion, check out the ROLS thread in the organic section and dump the bottled nutes. It's extremely rewarding to make your own living soil and then it's just plain water from there.

Ok thank u all for input

1 more question how tall would u let these get before flowering? I ask this because I have a lot 15 in a 4x4

I saw one post above saying for a 4x4 2 feet plants?
If that's the case they stretch a lot correct idk

I'm a rookie and just looking for people who have weeded out all the little problems growing in a 4x4 tent

I want to use a lot of light and click it over to 1k but a lot of people are telling me that too much

Again thanks for the replys

if your doing that many in a single 4x4, I would suggest giving them their recovery time and once they start making vertical headway again put them into flower for SOG. If you top you'll run out of space and over crowd.

Approximate fc in the sweet spot
(metered directly beneath the bulb)

Lamp Distance Foot-Candles
1000 watt HPS 1.50 foot (18 inches/45 cm) 9,000 fc
600 watt HPS 1.00 foot (12 inches/30 cm) 9,000 fc
1.50 foot (18 inches/45 cm) 5,600 fc
400 watt HPS 0.75 foot (9 inches/23 cm) 9,000 fc
1.50 foot (18 inches/45 cm) 4,000 fc
250 watt HPS 0.58 foot (7 inches/18 cm) 9,000 fc
1.50 foot (18 inches/45 cm) 2,800 fc

Highlighted items approximate the closest distance that particular lamp should be to the sweet spot to avoid over-lighting. (those interested in photosynthetic radiation can use this PPF PAR converter.). 400hps=16 cf 600hps=32cf 1000hps=48cf

hey cookie good thread. your questions are reasonable but our answers are frequently more of an if/then situation. if your plants start to yellow feed them. if the pots get light water them. if you have 12 plants for a 4x4 tent you may want to top them to fill the canopy. some people top to keep the plants closer to the same height. if you want your plants bushy or short bring the lights down etc. so you ve been doing it already, but read your plants then give em what they need. i have same size tent. oscillating fan? if your temps are low send the exhaust back towards the intake. during lights out tho, you may need some addtl heat. agree w crab pot, see if organic growing fits your style. i flower around 18" and at the end my light is at top of tent. but to me i dont flower until the plants are vigorous and healthy.

People are saying put the 400watt 9iches away from plants??!!

If I did that they'd be gone...

The temp says 73 at canopy when I have it that close but they do NOT like it

yea defn too close there. 18" a better starting point. depends on the light too. my first was an induction light. you can put this light much closer than hps lights. then you also make adjustments based on node length as the plant grows.

It's getting worse.

I don't think I'll be able to save the plants

I've tried 3 times to fill this tent up with clones and every time the same thing happens

Sometimes slowly sometimes fast

All the older fan leaves die get crispy until it works its way up
And the new growth comes to a hault
