Temp question?

So is it room temp that I should be worried about or the temp right below the light? I have a thermometer hanging 1' below my light (400w). After adjusting for more room the fan hits the light at a different angle. I had temps reach 88 but the room maxed at 80. Should I be concerned? Or at a foot away is higher temps okay?

You want to measure temperature at the canopy. If you can, hang a thermometer at the same level as the tops of your plants in the middle of your garden. that is the most accurate measurement. My room temps stay cool to funnel cold air into my closet. It is always 10F lower than the garden temp. garden temp is usually around 80 while right around the light is around 90. It will always be hotter when your close to the light. The tops of my plants are 18 inches from the light and it drops from 90F 4 inches from the bulb to 80F at the canopy.

Right on. Nope not seedlings, they are 21 days into flower. They are a few inches below the area that hit 88. And it only hit for like a hour before I noticed. I will have it under control before they get up tomorrow. It didnt help that it was our first 90f day where I live.

Use a t5 until they are about 15 inches or so, I wait till they are 20 than kick in the hps. The room temp is huge and bottom line make sure you keep it under 80, mine is 70, and keep a fan circulating the air in the room. Dont point the fan at the plant just make sure the air is flowing around and or behind the plant.
