Its not long, it just looks long, please please please read. I really really need help. OK, so i had 2 1000w HPS in a 4x8x8 room. They just had the regular old metal "wing" reflectors on them. We had fans on either side blowing at the lights then 2 box fans just blowing air. No exhuast or intake...we were just testing to see. Anyways, in a matter of minutes the temp was up to 110 and rising every second. We decided we only needed 1 light. But my QUESTION IS...those reflectors that you put a exhaust and duct work and all that on there...about how much would that drop the temp? That sucks all the heat away from the light before it even gets into the room right? Someone please help, i need to drop the temp alot and quick. Has anyone had this problem with that reflector then switched to a vented reflector and how much did it cool off. Short of adding a AC unit in the wall how else can i get rid of that heat. And if i do need an AC unit how big do i need for a 4x8x8...a 5000btu. Please help me out.

a cooltube will drop your temps dramatically. problem is, you need to vent that hot air out of the grow room. you will also need to have intake and exhaust for your grow room because plants don't do well in stale air.

Hey Fatal you are smart! You set up your room and ran it before you put any plants in it. Good lookin out. I have a few questions. Are your ballasts integral to your lights or are they seperate? Are the ballasts digital or magnetic? If you are are not using a extractor fan your plants are going to choke. They need ventilaton just like you need fresh air. 1000s are beasts. Could you survive in that room with water and some food? Plants are living entities too. Think of them as you would yourself. One 600 in a cooltube with a digital ballast and good ventilation may very well get a better yield than 2 1000s and no ventilation.

No, we sent back one of the lights and then we went to our local hydro shop and had a Cool Sun Reflector with a 6" Vortex fan. The temps are staying in the mid 70s and night and high 70s to low 80s when the sun is beating down on the shed. Everything going great now. As far as ventilation, we are opening the door and fanning it out every hour or so until we get a blower/exhaust fan in there. Ill have some pics up tonight, stay tuned!!!

Edit: Oh, and they ballast are separate and they are not digital. The ballast sits outside of the shed, well protected. Everything is going soooo great now. I just cant wait until they start taking off. Already had 2in of growth in the 2 days they have been in there. Soon as the roots get settled and shit, you better watch out!
