Teach me ......outdoor growing

hi

i have always done the work indoor.....skills to pay the bills

i am about to go out into oregon were it is legal....i have a partner nice lady but i have no practical outdoor exp to help add into the partnership

so what do i need to start thinking about what do i need to learn what do i need to build

ok what i have to ask
1 rain to me i have very careful not to get the buds wet ......do i need a shelter system when in heavy flowering from the rain ......or is it no big thing as they are use to it .....or do i want to shelter from the rain
A) i am thinking of making a wind block fence to protect from massive gusts

2 taken off /trimming it during grow.......for me it is simple the light coming directly down only goes so far in i know what to take off ....what is the rule for outdoor with the sun power and arc/movement

3 if i keep them in planters is it worth making a system that would allow me to rotate them in spot

4 what do u think is better tilling the soil and tweaking it for weed using good top soil and augments .....or keep it in a planter

5 has anyone every used chickens in the grow to take care of caterpillars and other little bugs ( shake the plant clean let them eat before can crawl back up)

6 should u use a trip wire blank as a alarm or should i invest in camera;s and motions senors

1. I'm in Florida, and have no practice with the NW but many use green houses. Hoop houses are kind of cheap.

2. Before flower you want to clean out underneath. More for air flow than sunlight though.

3. No.

4. A good low cost pot is a kiddie pool. $4.88 after the season at Walmart. Holds 40 gallons of soil.

5. Never used chickens with weed, but have had them in my tobacco. They kept the worms at bay.

6. A dog.

A good series, but NorCal weather a lot different than further north. There is a few good threads from Oregon growers. Those will have the pros and cons.

well i know auto plants like a mother fucker ........they can run on a 24/0 time table no trouble i was planning on starting the plants and given them 2 months of growth indoor move outside for the season ....then flip the indoor to auto plants and clones to make a feild rotation up

If I were you I'd figure out the climate/winds and pests of the new area you plan to grow in .....I have family up in Oregon and the wet weather is there worst nemesis in there gardens meaning bud rot of course ......so I'd look into a way of keeping them dry cause you can pretty much guarentee yourself some wet nasty weather there .....and I'd also make up a soil for your plants ...don't forget about smart pots you can get them for cheap and all different sizes ....if I were you my biggest concern would be protection from the wind and rain besides containers of whatever sort and size you decide filled with good soil to begin with

the wind i use the privacy fence like this one

the slats will allow air to flow tho ....but does enclose the growing area making it out of sight ....by law it has to be at least 6 foot tall

so it is no biggie to set up polls taller on one side make a simple slant roof using the eyelets on the tarp and some rope to string it up ......pull it out and cover it up in matter of secs ...pull it back and let all the light in (12 mils thick nice lady said the sun light has little issue about getting tho) but for wind and water wanted something that could take it for a season or 3

Got any idea on the average wind speed and gust speed where your moving?

Usually wind helps the ladies grow more, but then again I only deal with gusts that top off at 35 mph at the most.

A 6 ft. Fence will help out with the wind, but it definitely won't conceal the ladies from any curious eyes when there going into flowering when the real fear of rippers, etc. hits.

There's my two cents hahaa, I'm in the High Desert, so a lot of the problems you'll deal with in Oregon is almost completely non existent.

Also, go with the motion sensors and some cameras, they help out a TON!

You can pick up a cheap wifi camera off amazon, I wouldn't recommend using wifi for it, but a hard connection.

What I do is have my normal routher in the house and a $20 wifi repeater outside of a window in the backyard, which is in one of those waterproof electrical boxes, then I just dug a trench all the way to my area about 100 ft. Away and set up a hard connection to the camera.

Just don't spend the money on a cheap ass wifi camera if you can't set up a hard connection, your gonna have to drop a good amount of money for some real cctv.

Many outdoor growers do two or three crops a year. Not sure if you could do a spring crop without a greenhouse, but light dep will work for you if you are willing to work for it. But most don't like going to the 24/0 extreme when vegging. About 20/4 is as far out there as I would recommend on anything you were going full season with. Too easy to start early flower when you go outside with it. But for some that will early flower, and not go back to veg, you might think about crossing some of your photo and auto strains. With the mold problem where you are going, the earlier you can get it in the barn, the better.

well u know if i cross them ....they will all be auto flowers

the auto flowers now are mostly indica and sativa.....they are only taken the auto flip gene but they are using the growth and flavor of the others

7 gallon planter is doing me 4-6 oz every time about 5 foot plants

Check out getawaymountain's thread. He has done some really good work with semiautomatics. He pulled a crop in August.

I'd go for photos for the real harvest truthfully.

I grow autos outdoors and have a few harvests about every other week with them up until the real harvest.

Autos are inferior in tons of ways compared to photos, I only grow them cause I don't have the finances to set up a light dep or the time to do a DIY light Dep or else I'd be goin with photos.

The buds look great, but definitely are not as good and don't yield nearly as much as a photo would of in the same amount of time if you could light dep.

Where in Oregon? As you may know there are a lot of micro climates here...

I like the kiddiepool for a pot suggestion. I got a giant one that could do 150-200 gal i wonder if that suffice/support itself well enough

I grew a 35 plant/30 strain autoflower crop once in search of the best autoflower and found that Royal Queen Seeds makes a really worthy one called Royal Bluematic. It truly is as good or better than many photo strains but as for all the rest of them; no thanks. I no linger like autos but Royal bluematic is a winner that ill continue to play with.
But i totally agree with you, they are inferior and it is very nice to get those multiple harvests...quik too. Now i use them to keep smoke in my jar during the outdoor veg season
