Tater Troubles!

Well, not exactly troubles, more like questions! I have some potatoes that have been in a cool dark cabinet for quite a while. I noticed they were sprouting and they looked pretty healthy so I sort of just left them there for the winter. Now that it is summer the sprouts are vines, some more than 2' long! I want to plant them outside. Does anyone know anything about planting these things? Thanks in advance if you have any advice for me!!

i would just plant them in nice compost. and keep covering them up as they grow only leave about 6inch of plant out of the ground. the stem will keep growing shoots and lots of taters. oh and if there to shoots cut them in half to make 2
