It's really hard to use the microscope on the plant- impossible to focus. I usually cut off one of the tiny bud leaves with lots of trichs to look at. You'll find that a flat sample works best with a scope because you can only focus on one point in the depth range. Sometimes a glass slide on top of the sample is helpful, though I rarely use one. I do use a piece of dark cloth to put the sample on when viewing- it cuts down the reflection and gives you a good high-contrast background. No need to cut a bud, you'll just need a little sample from one.

Oh cool, so you suggest looking at the leaves intead of the bud. Will that work? And thanks for the advice.

The tiny leaves that are part of the bud is what I use, but you could use a calyx instead. you only need enough to fit under the scope.

Oh tight man. This is my first time growing, so i'm not even completely sure what the trichomes are formed on beside the bud. I'll have to practice with the microscope...I just heard it's the best thing to use. I'm going to start growing about a month from now so i'm trying to do as much research as I can. If you have any tips hit me up.

when you get a trichome covered leaf to scope, its much easier to focus and keep still.
This one isnt a good quality pic but you get an idea what you will see in a scope.

that was a clipping from my first grow. i took a clip off one of the small leaves and placed it under my usb scope. I broke the install disk, without their shitty program it doesnt work any longer! I have to find me a windows 7 usb scope, i love checking on the plants with a scope so much! lets me dial in exactly when i need to flush.

That plant was just moving into harvest, its still a little clear but mostly milky

i like weed that is milky/amber so when i see all the clear heads have went milky.. all of them then i know its ready to flush. Thats a week for me in hydro speak.. I change the res and run clear water till chop.

Oh yeah, it was a super little plant. a 17 inch cola and gave me quite a bit to smoke.

And trust me, i did every noob mistake there was. I used GH flora series nutrients so i never had to worry with PH issues. I just feed once a week to keep the ph at 6

Yo, big question for everyone.

Big Devil. It is supposed to flower at 6 weeks..when normally will it be ready to harvest? I'm pressed for time; it is an auto flowering strain, but on attitude it says it will take 6 weeks to flower from seed...what does that mean when its autoflowering? haha

it means its ganna flower without u switching the light hours to 12/12..it just flowers automatically..if it says 6weeks i'd wait 6weeks after i see the first little bud growing, then after 6weeks check ur trichomes and if their milky white or amber flush them and then u can harvest
