Taking summers off from your grow.

I cut my final plants yesterday after growing all fall, winter and most of the spring, and now it is time for a break. I used to grow year round, but grew tired of dealing with heat and bugs and all the other things that make growing a hassle in the summer indoors. I also like to take a vacation here and there and just relax. Does anyone else stop growing during the summer, or do you carry on through the entire year? I just don't think it is worth it, especially after reading all the posts about heat and insect problems that occur during that time of year. What do you think?

You know, I tend to agree........my crops in the heart of the summer are never as good as all the others. Excess heat is never healthy to humans or plants. I don't stop growing, but I expect a step down in overall quality.

I would love to start taking the summers off after this year but I just started flowering a few plants cause I was low. I am in the desert and its up to 100 today and of course my home AC crapped out on me last night luckily my grow room has AC. Now just time to hide some ducting and filters from the AC guy about to be in my attic, sketchy! But yeah summers off is a great idea I agree.

I can't grow indoors during the real hot months because I haven't forked up the cash for an A/C yet. :wall: I will hang a few CFL's and veg though, just so I can have a crop ready to flip to flower come OCT.

I LOVE the free outdoor Sun though. I live on the East coast of Canada, and my outdoor season sucks as it is, but last year I squeezed out a few decent lady's.

why not just get an a/c? its still well worth it even with the jump in electricity... I'm lucky enough to be in a basement and I have the lights on at night so my temps have stay around 80-82 without an a/c. I got one hooked up ready to go if needed but so far so good. I don't know I guess a break is good every now and then its just this is the best time to have indoor bud cuz there isn't much outdoor left, no real good outdoor anyways... so the prices are higher right now n will be til october so I think its more than worth the cost/hassle that comes with running in summer. just my two cents...

It would be nice to take some time off and not worry about a summer grow. My biggest bitch is drying in mid August when it's hot and humid.

For indoor, I do late winter to the early summer. Since I heat the house with a heat pump, electricity gets pricey from the late fall forward. This way allows me to also start outdoor plants in the early spring and select a good mother for clones etc. I budget for Feb. but, the costs are easily offset by the product.
