Taking clones from a plant thats just starting to flower

Is it a bad idea to take clones from a plant thats about 1-2 into flower? I mean i know it can be done, but is it a good idea. I made some clones before switching the lights over, but im kinda worried that i might loose one or two of my clones( thats what happened the with the 1st batch of clones). The first hairs are sticking out on the top of the plant, but the parts on the bottom still look like veging plant....

Thanks

It's a great idea.. really.. I would rather prefer cloning a flowering plant than a non flowering plant.. it might take a bit longer to reverse the flowering back to veg, but the veg is always more rabid and lush from a flowering clone, than a non flowering one..

Clone on.. clone on

i agree.. once read an article about the benefits of taking clones from a flowering mom vs a non flowering mom, but can never find the damn thing for a link when i want to show people about it..
but yeah, cloning from a flowering mom is ok, just like 333 has said, can take a bit longer for it to root on you, than when it does, it has to revert back to veg mode, which might create a bit of odd growth at first.
i've found 24 hours of light for a flowering clone works pretty good at reverting it back to veg mode as compared to say 18/6.. just ime..

How far into flowering is too far to clone?

It's technically never too late to clone.. I have actually tried and succeed taken cuttings off a totally mature plant almost a DAY AFTER I chopped it.. they were slow to root and convert, but indeed they did..

That said, I have found taking anything after the 4th week to be rather painful and slow.. BUT, it can yield some incredible results for the LST crowd as it sends a bazillion shoots everywhere when it does take.

yes, I have two mothers that I grew from clone, they were both taken early in flower and continued to flower while rooting.
finally they went back into veg, but they went crazy with branching.

Thanks for the reply, i just wanted to make sure.... I cant figure out why my second batch of clones hasnt rooted. I did them exactly the same as my first batch (except for the medium is rockwool instead of coco) , but for some reason 9 days later, no roots. With coco, they rooted in less than 7 days. Who knows... im going to wait till the for 14th day and if nothing happens ill make more cuttings.

Btw i checked out your music, i like the rush song... At first i was like "a pot head that likes rush?!?!" then i realized what the song was about...

Heh.. that one kinda came to me in the middle of the night.. Probably easier to digest with the video. I did a bit of channeling a Woody Guthrie/Bob Dylan shtick (I am not a folk singer nor an acoustic player particularly).

NPR used it as background filler on a bit they did on him.. it was a hoot..

Thanks for the ear~!

Cuttings.. if they are holding water and supple, they aint dead.. just give em time.. me thinks.. good luck..

great thread!!! I accidentally got 2 strains name tags mixed up and now my next veg cycle is mixed up with the wrong strain names. gonna cut 2 clones from each strain (x2), and label them properly when the flowering plants show what strain they are. I really need to stop medicating while in my grow area. one strain is purple, the other is not. so I should be easily able to tell what strain is what.

I also started a clone with one that was 2 weeks into flowering and it was my first year doing it but it really didn't turn out to be worth my time. I'm not sure if its because I didn't put much time into it or if it wasn't a good clone. So next year I'm going to try some new things and hopefully it'll be worth my time lol.

When I took clones off of a plant about 10 days of 12/12 it seemed to root faster, I kind of remember seeing somewhere that the hormones at the beginning of flower are similar too those that sprout roots. I didn't notice much time reverting as it was nearly flowering, maybe 2 weeks after rotting before it started rapid growth.... That was my experience. I take most clones in veg just that one tome I needed some extras and I was trimming up her skirt anyway so took the clones

Yeah I think that's what I'm doing next year is just starting a plant just to make clones with that way their started before flowering. I also wanna try other soil.
