Taking Apart a Sunsystem 150 Hps

I got two of um i wanna make them external ballasted and get different hoods so i can get some air flow to them and im new to this and i dont wanna take apart a light and not be able to put it back together or fuck it up for good any knowledge would be helpful.

yea it is possible to do you will need to extend the electrical cables to the bulb socket and ballast (put the bare ballast on something non heat conductive or you may have a fire) DO NOT TOUCH THE IGNITOR for about 10-15 mins after taking the power away it still stores power

yep what he said.. very easy to do.

open it up and look at it carefully, get some 16 gauge wire to extent the connections from the lamp socket to the ballast. I did this once for a 250Wsunburst and the ballast was actually point welded onto the hood encasing itself. Some force and a flat screwdriver took care of that. Then put the ballast somwhere safe where nothing will touch it or put some protection over it. And dont do it right after you had the lamp on just leave it off for a few hours then do it, safety first.

Thats easy, Just undo the casing at the base of the reflector and unscrew the mogul socket from the other side.
Then buy a female recepticle and wire it into the same color cords as the mogul socket to the ballast. That way you wont have to lop the heads off your cord to connect to it.

thnx guys i actually just did it and it wasent that hard just took my time and unscrewed everything piece by piece i used a project box from radioshack to house the ballast and ignitor i only did one first took a few fuckin hours i need to get some different wire to connect the socket i used some wire that was really stiff my next job is making a homemade 4 in cool tube to put both them bitches in one on each side what you guys think?
