T5s and seedlings

I have seedlings (about 2" tall) and just bought a 4' x 4 t5 light. Everything I read said to get the light about 2" from the plant. Well, I did that and the tips of the leaves started browning and curling so I've backed it up to about 8" now. Do I just monitor the temperature and distance the light based on that? Or am I going to end up with "leggy" plants doing that? It seems to have stunted the growth now. Any help is appreciated!

yes just monitor how close. seedlings cant take the light and heat that close. once you have a good root system you can lower the light
