Sylvania Gro-Lux 600w hps bulb blow up"

my tent has been switched on for nearly a week now. When I came upstairs last night the bulb had bubble shape sticking out of it and its turned all black! My plants have had no light since last night. The bulb was brand new and only been used for nearly a week! All the other components are fine such as the ballast, fan and cool tube. Im confused how this has happened! Any ideas?

Funny thing is ...I was going to pick one of them up today to .... i was flip flopping between that and the Osram ... lol .... Well now i think i will go with the Osram

I think its just luck of the draw mate .... get onto your retailer and tell em your not happy .... as its a faulty one you will get a replacement and maybe a sweetner thrown in ... the shop will get a sweetner from the supplyer for sure .... Keep Us Posted

i know the lad who runs the shop and they have a strict policy on returning bulbs because people was using them and returning them! So for people like me who cant afford another have to suffer for a genuine reason!

Thats fucking stupid if you bought it a week ago them fucks need to replace it. If they wont take it to the light company

Yeah, that's bullshit and bad business if they won't let you return it. Regardless of warranty, if I sold somebody a piece of shit bulb, and it messed up on them then they are getting a new better bulb.

It looks like the bulb was underrated.Like a200 instead 2000 watt.Bulbs don`t just get hot and explode.Power surge.I don`t know that one got so Fried.But it only takes one drop of water on a hot tube to make it go booooooom!Good Luck on your grow.

don't mist around a hot HID bulb.. you're lucky it didn't explode on you..
Speaking of getting screwed on bulbs.. I picked up some t5's from a pet store and when I came home the bulbs turned on and right off..
Took them back to exchange and the next set I picked up looked like they were used.. Well I grabbed the last they had and figured I would chance it..
Yea well the one bulb blew the beginning of this week so I been down a t5 fixture all week.. Fortunately its not the main light..

mm sorry man selective reading.. misting shouldn't hurt the bulb if it's in a cool tube and it's sealed up so the mist can't reach the bulb. Which I'm sure you probably have set up that way.

Thats pretty bad luck dude ... and your shop sucks ... I can imagin it being policy ...but on the strenth of the fact you only got it last week..and him being a buddy ... you would think they would make an exception ... Good Business sence really ... Shame though .

I Have To Ask .....you never touched it with your bare hand while screwing it in did you ?...Some say it leaves a grease resedue that can pop the bulbs when hot .... i dunno ... But i allways handle bulbs with a clean cotton or silk cloth just in case

Even with the coolshade ... DON'T mist near it ,It only takes a tiny gap in it to suck moisture in and poof !... That tube with even just a tiny gap will act like a vacum and hoover the moist air in .

Besides ....As far as im aware ... its better to mist when lights are off as the water droplets act as tiny magifing glasses and burn leaves under intence light ... worth thinking about and im sure people here with more experience than me will back me up on this .

BTW ...i ended up getting the " PowerPlant Super HPS 600w " after seeing your horror story ...it made me paranoid .... But at the same time i do understand it could just be the luck of the draw ...or a schoolboy error !

u could stir up some shit about safty and what not, what if that fuckin thing exploded when u were tending the garden, u could've lost an eye. u should bring the bulb to them and give a what the fuck to ur buddy. if u know him it shouldnt be to hard to talk to him

i knew about holding the lamp with bear hands when screwing it in...but...now you got me paranoid becuase i didnt do it on the new lol

my mate has big growroom so he gave me one of his spare 600w dual spectrum lamps which was good of him. Think i need to help him with pruning as a payback though lol

im only gonna spray with lights out now aswell

As for the new lamp ... for the sake of safty and to reduce the chances of it happening all over again ( if that was the case ) ... You might wanna take it out at lights off .... after its cooled ...and with a cloth and give it a good wipe .... i wank mine and tell em " Come on you fucker bring me some good gear " lol .... that last bits a lie ...
