Switching to T5

To each their own, haha. It is a big money pit if you buy the wrong bulbs or keep trying different ones. I admit i spent more than i would have liked on bulbs, but I am pretty happy with my results. To each their own, like you said :)

i understand that you want to go par, but they are producing more lumens, than just regular T5 and the bulbs arent that much difference in price.

Agreed, this is probably the only way you can do it cheaply without worrying too much about balancing everything. If you look at a chart for a 6500k versus a Flora Sun you will see why it's beneficial... and flora suns are about 8-10 bucks a piece for a 4 footer... sure, it's a little more, but not really too much in the bigger scheme of things

thats 30 bucks a bulb not including shipping, i think that is just rediculous, i can spend 35 at my local hydro shp and get a whole single 2 or 4 foot fixture with a bulb for the same price

It is alot of money, but have seen enough to convince me to at least TRY PAR lighting.

I used to use a boat load of 4' T12's...... and you can buy all the same colors in the T12 size.......
Hmmm, it's tempting to do a PAR T12 experiment!

For the T12's If your going to spend the money on the bulbs, you might as well run T5's. But I can see where your coming from.

I believe there around the same price. T5 or T12. Maybe a little cheaper

Yeah T5's would be better, but I already have all the T12 fixtures.

I've been seeing that everybody seems to buy their specialty tubes online.
Did you know you might be able to buy them locally at a fish store or pet center?
I know that both Petco and PetSmart sell various popular ones.
Even Walmart near me carries Coralife brand tubes for less than $20.

Looking back at PAR and PLLs, there are sources for various PLL bulbs to accomplish similar color temps/wavelengths. So you could have a lot of power in a two foot long footprint. Harder to find, but doable.
