Ok so I'm sketching up my next grow after having to scrap my last one. I'm planning on using ffof soil and using the fox farm trio soil formula and also foliar feed with flower kiss.

I was wanting to find out if there is any other additives that you would suggest to use with these and also get any tips people have learned using this.
Thank you

Ok. What should I do for seedlings? I have some old pro mix which is completely neutral so I'm thinking I should mix promix and ffof 2:1, would that be fine for seedlings and also when do I begin with the nutes. And what strength do I start the notes compared to the suggested feeding schedule? Thank you

Yeah man and ive found that mixing light warrior seed starter with ffof 50/50 and my plants are MUCH happier and grow a lot faster. But with that said I have had a ton of gnat issues using FFOF products... must have a lot of eggs in their soil, as the plants were from seed. And maybe that's a given with most organic soil, i dont know?

Also i've seen a lot of people mixing 20-30 percent perlite with ffof which i just started experimenting with so we'll see how that goes.. The trio works great with it and is all you really need imo. maybe cal-mag if you use R/O water.

^^Have you tried mixing with light warrior instead and compared results? I'm assuming probably similar results but cheaper adding perlite and get more nutes out of the soil that way?

no I have not . honestly . soil is soil my opinion if your going to hit them with nutrients and add perlite . you will pull the same yield from ff or pro mix or mg to big lots black gold . I have tested them all trying to see if I could get a bigger yield and its always the same . mg sucks you need to go 50/50 with perlite
so basically I shop for the best bang for the dollar over brand name .

Yea I've heard a lot of people complaining about bugs in ffof soil. Is it widespread or just a small percentage. And do they hurt the plants? Thank you

I have never had gnats with ffof, I did once with Miracle Grow out of about 3 or 4 times using it. I don't know about light warrior or happy frog as I've always just put my sprouts into the ffof and never had an issue.

gnats are just a bother and not really an issue with the plants ime..
i use ffof and mix a good % of perlite in the bag, idk 30% or so'ish, and i have never burnt a seedling.. some people say they burn plants with ffof, but i've never personally had an issue..
as for when to feed them, pretty much when the growth on them starts to slow down, and they look hungry, which ime, is about 3 weeks or so from seeds, give or take.
start off with about 1/4 the does of what it says on the back of the bottle.. it's always better to go light with nutes as it's easier to add more than to take away after you've burnt the plants..

Im growing in ffof right now... Well, its a 50/50 mix of ffof and Tupur. Like others have suggested, the tupur contains perilite(and coco and a couple others) to increase the drainage. Apparently the ffof gets too compacted/not enough oxygen on its own. I planted my clones right into the mix from dixie cups. They did great for the

Here is a link to a couple problems I had strting this grow:
https://www.rollitup.org/t/fox-farm-soil-feeding-schedule-way-too-strong.824056/

I am using everything on their soil feeding chart now, as listed... minus the foliar spray... That being said, I have seen some MIGHTY fine buds grown with just the trio.

So my takeaways:
-Cut the ffof with something (perilite or another multi-medium additive)
-Hold off on starting the feeding chart for 3 - 4 weeks, untill the girls have really rooted and put enough size on (Dont start full strength!)

That makes sense. That's what the guy at the grow store told me as well. Have you tested Roots Organics to? I haven't gone from start to finish with different soils/mixes, but I have noticed that my plants that were potted in a 50/50 mix of light warrior/FFOF seem to grow almost twice as fast as the ones in pure FFOF w/ no amendments.. literally. So don't know if this would effect yield or not, but I would imagine so? I appreciate your informative post, i'm just trying to take in as much knowledge as possible from you more experienced growers :weed:

The problem I see with mixing just perilite is that it tends to migragte to the top pf the container, leaving more of the ffof at the bottom compressing and starving out oxygen... That's why I like to cut in some coco (like basically inert Tupur), Watch the salts on the coco, though. It builds up easier than in straight soil.

Thank all of you for your input. I know what you mean about the perlite floating up, I will probably mix 20/80 coco and ffof
