switching cycles

Hi all, this is my first grow and i hope i didn't screw anything up!! (i'm growing indoors with 400 mh for veg and 400 hps for my flower cycle) I veg'd for 4 wks (3 gallon cont) and realized how big my plants were (14") i only have two. i have used foxfarm ocean forest, watered only with distilled water and have added 0 nutes thus far...they look great , except for minor yellowing tips on one plant towards the top (i think light burn) but still looks very happy anyway, i had a small opportunity to do my "dirty work" and switch out the bulbs and get everything in order for my 12/12. because i had this small window, i had to interrupt my 18/6 cycle and switch to darkness for 20hrs then start up on my 12/12....so here'smy questions..
1. was this bad to interrupt the lighting cycle and switch to darkness for 20 hrs and then start up on 12/12?
2. when should i start my nutes? i have FF big bloom and FF grow big

any advise i will greatly appreciate!!! thank you so much

Thanks for the quick reply!!! when do think i should give them the first slug of nutes? i was thinking of gradually introducing....maybe starting with half the rec.amount? what do you think??? im trying to keep it really simple since this is my first time and i don't want to get discouraged

does it mean anything that one smells really skunky and the other more just earthy? of course i would talk to them every night before lights out and tell them to be strong females...hehehe .....but during veg stage is there any indicator? ive just been going with good ole' positive reinforcement....figure it will become a self-fulfilling prophecy
