Sure To Grow Blocks - Any Good?

Does anyone have any experience with the Sure To Grow blocks?

According to their product info:

• Optimal levels of aeration and water retention
• pH neutral, sterile and inert
• No pre prep needed
• Non wicking technology, means no nutrient salt build up

Sounds pretty good, but the fact that not many people talk about these, makes me wonder are they good or not.

Please post with your experience!

Works fine for me. Using the snow cubes right now, tried the 1' netpot fill in, worked great.

Do they get green with algae?
How good is the drainage?

Ahhhh another helpful post from someone with absolutely no help to give, or anything productive to say except to talk smack. Take it somewhere else dude.

No, I actually wanted to know if anyone has had any experience with this type of medium. I have never heard anything about them from anyone, so figured I'd ask the masses. I was considering trying them but wanted to get opinions from other people before I did. None of the local hydro shops carry these, so if I wanted to try them I would have to buy a full box for $70+ which I am not jumping at the chance to do if they are going to be shitty.

Maybe you want to pay for them and send them to me try them out? Oh, no? You don't? I figured. So I will go right on ahead asking others for their opinion. Something that this forum was built for, and thrives on.

Any review that is posted on my site is done with the actual product in hand. We never take other people's content and recompile it, a fact that was either lost on you or.... the more probable situation, you just jumped in here to talk some smack without even visiting my site and reading one of my articles. Whether you like my content or not, it is my own, FREE, and designed to help people in a friendly manor.

Lots of green algae, and im not an expert on the drainage, but I would say its very easy to clean.

Do you use anything to control the algae problem? Hygrowzyme or H202?

So I didn't get the Sure To Grow Blocks, but the local hydro store did have the Sure To Grow 8' x 4' mat to line the bottom of your tray. So I thought it would be a good experiment to test out this medium. I'll try and post back updates with pictures.

I'm new to hydro and I thought I would give SureToGrow a try. So far I've taken a Cutting to showing roots through a 6" net pot in 13 days. I'm using Hail and after 14 days I've noticed some of the cubes on top yellowing or browning after 7 days and a little bit of green starting to show up in a couple pots after 12, so far I have taken maybe 10 cubes of hail out that I thought had to much color.

I heard from a grow shop that people where complaining of salt build up and no one bought it because they where already use to Hydronton or Rockwool. I'm using Drip Clean by House & Garden to try and avoid salt build up. I didn't have the D/C when starting the grow so I'm building up to full strength over time to avoid build up from being dumped into the system all at once.

I'm liking it so far, I'll take it to the end of flowering to know if I will stick with it but for now I will start another batch with the hail when these go to flower and I'll also keep a mother or two in STG as well.

That's funny I installed LP-TechShield in my room as well.

ive used the suretogrow cubes before and they work great...just tough to find locally where im at

I have switched to perlite.

STG has not worked well for me for roots. It is non-wicking but holds a giant amount of water. But, most of it will drain out. It leave a wet 1/2 inch. I have never got it to work. After a dozen clones, 2 at a time, I gave up. Worse medium for me so far. Never could get the water schedule correct.

Perlite, will wick and the roots love it.
