supplementing a 600 in 5x5 tent.

Hello all, I need to get more light to the edges of my 5x5 tent. Any suggestions would be great. I have a Magnum xxl with 600 HPS and want to upgrade to more light and harvest.

I want to not exceed 1000 watts for attention reasons.

I will give you my known options, please offer all advice!!!

.Move to 1000 W HPS. 125,000 lumens. 1000 watts

.Add two 150 W HPS. 94,000 (600 hps existing) + 32000. 126,000 total lumens. 900 watts

.Add to two 125 W Cfl. 94,000 (600 hps existing) + 14000. 108,000 total lumens. 850 watts

.Add a couple 4x2 T5 fixtures. Dosen't look good lumen per watt wise.

I wish I had a future situation with two 600's on a light mover in a 5x8 tent but upgrade cost is too high just yet.

I am leaning towards the two 150 Hps's but heat might become an issue as well having three lights to deal with in a small tent. 1000 W would be easy??

This is my 10th scrog, fifth with Chocolope. So far between 14.5 oz and 24 oz. every 10 weeks. I just need a bit more light and experience.

Oh! i'm trying some UVB rays this time a round. Zilla Desert 50. I hit half the table with 50% more UVB so maybe I will see something new and a comparison.

Thanks!!

One option is ditch the magnum hood and go with a winged reflector such as adjust-a-wings, the reason being is that the magnum is a fixed light footprint, with adjustable reflectors just bend the wings outward to create a larger lighted area.

Thanks Play. Maybe the Mag. is for a 4x4 tent as this is also what a 600 is rated for, and I'm trying to get to the edges while still keeping the center at the correct height.

a few CFLs at the edges can be a cheap fix if all your looking for is to cover the space a bit more effective

this is just two 30W (equal to 150W) 2700K/1650Lumens CFLs I use for side lightning in flowering, cost me like 25$ for all you see in the picture

Thanks Ganja, I like this. Did you see difference with the additional 1650?

I like to use T5 strip lights on the side of my Hood for a little extra light and they sell kits to do it. Works really nice. :peace: out.

If financially challenged------go with the mover first (light rail three)---------then upgrade to the 1K hps-----don't think adding floros improves the yield much.

You need a 2nd 600w HID in that 5x5.

Does no one pay attention to the rules of thumb we have all known for sooo long now?

50w per square foot minimum (yes slightly, and I do mean slightly less will do but bottom range of optimal is 50wpsf and upper range is 65wpsf).

A 5x5 is 25 square feet and a 600w HPS in a tent that big will only give you 25wpsf (I won't even veg in that dim of light)...so I have no clue how you're getting the yields you claim unless scrogging the whole tent, and that means you're getting a lot of larf/airy under-developed buds.

In a 5x5 1200w (2x 600w HPS's) is what you should be aiming for...that will give you 48wpsf and 7200 lumens per sq foot (7000 to 10000lpsf nets the densest buds so long as always, you can take care of the heat).

1200w is only 200w more than 1kw...no red flags there.
