SuperSun2 or Magnum XXXL

Hi Everyone...I have a quick question. I'm having trouble deciding which reflector to go with. I'm going to be running a 600w HPS and my grow area will be a scrogged 4.5'x3.5' then later expanded to 4.5'x7'. I just picked up the Magnum XXXL but now I'm second guessing myself. I figured I would get better coverage with the XXXL but now I'm wondering if it was over kill.

Also, I was going to add a second reflector once I expanded to 7ft. My main concern is that for the area I'm growing in that the might disperse the light too much and I should have just went with the SUperSun2.

Any feedback is appreciated!

XXXL are most efficiently used with 1000 watts and larger bulbs. I do not have alot of experience with the Sunsystem2. But do have a Blockbuster running a 600 and it does a fantastic job of covering a 4x4 area. 2 Blockbusters running 600s would cover a 4.5x7 area very nicely....

The only thing I don't like about the XXXL is cleaning the damn glass. I have to unscrew the whole thing and take it out to clean it. I hope someone can tell me that I am doing it wrong.

I like my xxxl's. I run a few of them inline. The two things I don't like are: as stated above, cleaning the glass sucks, and so does opening the glass over the plants to switch out lamps for flower. I tried to get tricky once and the glass fell. Luckily, it didn't break, and the broken branch it fell on was tied up, and got HUGE when it healed :). I also have found they are very leaky for the air cooled fans. I am going to have to take electrical tape and tape up all the edges of the metal as they shoot out super hot air all over my damn room. It causes even more heat, and puts fresh air into the room, which is not good since I have a "sealed room". It took me a while to figure out why I use so much co2. They do put out a good light pattern though.

Are you running 600w or 1000w in the xxxl's? I did some digging and found a post where a guy said he did find that they penetrated as good as some others...his opinion was that it dispersed the light outward too much. I believe he was referring to running 600w's in them. Anyway, I don't know how I didn't see them before but I just ordered the Blockbuster's as suggested earlier...the dimensions are square and just shy of the xxxl's width...but the shape seems to allow for better concentration of the light.

I just unboxed my Super Sun 2 this morning and it's fantastic. Haven't had the chance to test it with the lights that I'm still waiting to get here but I can assure you this reflector is quality.

I'AM ONLY RUNNING A 250W METAL HALIDE IN THE ABOVE PICS !!!

I use the SuperSun 2 its well good! I run a combination of 250w, 400w, and 600w HID lamps depending on the time of year, the glass door is attached on a hinge, so you dont have to take it down to clean the glass etc... all the reflective sides are angled :) the only thing I would say is the SS2 is a rectangular shape, where as I am pretty sure the XXX-L and BLOCKBUSTER's are square and alot bigger in size.

(the Super-Sun 2 is the smallest, then its the Blockbuster then its the F-ing 'HUGE' Magnum XXX-L)

If your going with a 600w lamp, Personally I'd go with the Magnum XXX-L, because the bulb should be easier to cool due to the larger size... I have run a 600 in my Super Sun 2 reflector.. but my 6" Prima Clima in-line fan had to go on full power to clear the heat and even then it was a close call!
I've not tried either of the other 2 reflectors but I imagine having more cold air drawn over the bulb should cool the larger reflectors better?!!

I highly rate Sun-Systems reflectors : Very good build quality :) I was so happy when mine arrived and in my 2 Pot DWC STEALTH-CAB, it was a perfect fit! and due to both its 4 angled sides, and the cab and the reflector being of a retangular shape, I get optimum light coverage for my girls :)

I had to pay £180.00 for my brand new Super-Sun 2 ^^^ (Pics), and its perfect for my setup, I think one of the other 2 reflectors will suit your needs better, but I would measure them 1st, they're both kinda big.

I added Silver Duct-Tape all around the edges just to make sure there was a 100% air-tight seal, the Super Sun 2 does have a good seal anyway, but I think the other 2 reflectors may need Draft-Strips or Duct-Tape for a better seal

Hope thats helpful - STELTHY :leaf:

ya the XXXL sucks when it comes to being sealed. best fix is to run a bead of high temp silicone along the glass to seal it.

I am sure you will be happy with the BBs. Hinged glass and they seal well.
