I gave the clones a small feeding a few days ago, then pruned the old leaves. Something worked Shoots are now evident at several lower spots.

Just noticed this in a different angle. So far 5 viable shoots that I can see (blue arrows). The little leaves just below the shoots (red circles) have this weird cup-shape to them, which seems to protect the young shoot, but it also keeps it from getting light as soon. The upper one came out on it's own, but I snipped half the lower leaf to see if that helps any.

The other one may be toast. Since it's not hurting anything and I'm not dropping a seed I tried lopping that top bud-thing off. Zooming in I can't even see stem, so I may not have gone deep enough. the flower was hard and crispy. I may go back in tonight and snip until I can see an actual node, then let it go.

I may take clones from this skunk instead since there are a several larfy sprouts underneath the canopy. More practice

Monster-crop Lessons learned:
1. Anything with pistils gets pruned.
2. Once the stem is in rooting gel, don't rush to get it into the peat sponge. As long as no air can get into the base of the stem you have time to score the sides of the stem carefully - and thoroughly.The one that didn't root well looked like it wasn't scarred enough on the stem and only produced 3 little root-nodules (or whatever).

I may have to just take clones tomorrow and put all this crap on a different journal

Getting ready to take clones. I gave up on the other clone, so I did another investigation.

I tried to pull it up by the stem and lifted the pot So on this one everything I did for the roots worked. I may just not have been patient enough, but when I took these they were short without much node-spacing. It had enough green to feed the roots, but it was too crowded to let anything up top grow out.

Reaffirms my intent yo snip any mini flowers. Previously my (mis)understanding was that the flowers themselves would be where the new shoots came out.

Snipped 7 clones, messed up one.

I stuck them in water immediately after the snip. When I got started I dipped the wet stem in the dry hormone, then into the gel. While it was protected, I snipped the top off of each flower/sprout and trimmed any leaves that would touch the tray. I scored the bottom several times, then gave it a final 45 degree cut and redipped it.

I had some water in the base of the tray that I rinsed the clonex syringe in, and put the pods in the tray to absorb some, but I dumped the tray before I domed it. In a few days I'll put them in a solo cup with soil just like I would do with a seed, then just watch for roots.

Shouldn't be much to update on them, so if any take they get their own thread.

Welcome to day 85 for the Skunkster, day 20 since the flip. Lights came on at 7pm, and I watered with a gallon of RO, with half strength calmag. The ppm was 150 in, and only 750 out, so I gave her the week 4 of flower feeding - kind of. Ii only mixed a half gallon of nutes, but at about 90% strength. this time the in was 1300ppm and out was about 1250. so I don't think I am over feeding.

For the math wizards, 20 days since flip, week 4 feeding? I don't go by calendar days. I go by pot weight (feel, not a scale) and the feed-water-feed-water schedule and just giver her what's next. The humididity being in the 20's and 30's has really shortened the time between watering's, and also made me wary of over-feeding. I fed her just 5 days ago, watered 2 days ago, and today was either water or feed depending on run-off. We'll see if it works.

The lower shoot now has definition. I am hesitant to re-pot this one, so I am thinking about cleaning off everything below that blue line instead, and adding more soil to bury some of that mess. I don't want some kind or rot killing the stem. I think if it should put out more roots from those spots eventually if I do.

Oh, and the clone got it's very first normal leaf

Thanks, I'm impressing myself. I got a great yield last time, but here was the ugliness:

The one on the left was half a manifold that broke but wouldn't die, and it hermied a few days after this pic. It was probably destined to from the start.

For the "weeks", it has to be the low humidity from the heater being on 24/7 But if this plant keeps loving it and I may invest in a heavy duty dehumidifier for this summer.

I think some leaf pruning is in order when the lights come on tonight. I don't know if it matters, but I don't like to prune stuff when I feed (this late in the grow) because it seems the older lower leaves take the brunt of any nute-damage. So if I wait a day or two, maybe the leaves I was pruning anyway will 'filter' any excess on my part.

Completely conjecture. I think this falls into the "can't hurt" category.

For about 2 weeks (whenever I bumped the lights up to 100%) I turned the fan up as well. I noticed a huge temp drop at night, down to almost 60 and no raise in humidity. There may be a timer setting on my fancy fan, but I don't trust things like that or my ability to properly program them. I now have an alarm set on my phone for lights-on and lights-off and I drop the fan down to the lowest speed at night. With the low humidity I'm not worried about bud rot, and I think that still moves a good bit of air. Humidity gets up into the 40's in the dark this way.
It's on speed 4 during lights on, out of 6 (I thought it had 5 LOL) and the plant seems to like it. the little oscillating fan is on 24/7.

i have to drop my exhaust down on lowest setting when lights go out, or temps just get a little too cold. if i leave it on low, my rh stays around 45-48% with lights out.

I got to thinking about all the 'under-sprouts' that don't get enough light.
Looking underneath, a day after feeding, you can see them drooping.

Agent orange! I defoliated the hell out of her! I started from the bottom, and the inside shoots first. From underneath, I started snipping any fat leaf stem. I have a roller caddy, with drainage, (link later) and I just went around and around, taking another 'level' each time. I got more "lollipoppy" with the inner larfy stems than I did with the main cola, but I still got all the 'fat-stem-no-sugar' leaves off the 10 main cola (8+2toppings)

I removed all tie-downs and let her breathe while I had a beer,

then I started over, trying to even stuff out height wise, and pull stuff left and right as needed to fill in gaps.

I have a few that seem to be taking off more than others. Anyway, I have yet to 'lollipop a plant until today. Let's see what happens

Oh, the sugar-trim part. Not planning on pruning much from here on out, but anything I trim henceforth goes in a zip-lock in the freezer for the bubble-hash at harvest.

I'll be interested to see how much it filled in by morning. There was only one tall limb that I pulled drastically sideways to make room. On the 'after' pic it's at the very bottom.

On the bubble hash thing. I LOVE IT! to an extent...

I bought the 5 bag set, but 3 have only been used once. There is a 200+micron "work" bag that lets all the goodies sift through, and a 25 micron catch bag that lets the water through. If you are not grading and selling hash, the rest are a waste. I use a cordless drill and a silicone paint stirrer, and my 'different grades' of hash are 1st run, 2nd run, etc. each agitation breaks the veg material a little smaller, and more gets through. Freezing the green trim I usually get 3 runs. Same water, same (plus more) ice each time.

I also toss all bud-stems from daily use in the same bag and run them every harvest.

Because of using my decarb machine, I have felt a difference between strains AND harvests (like the GDP, and the herm GDP) and some are 'get stuff done', some are 'invent weird shit' or 'tackle strange problems', and some are just 'watch Lord of the Rings'

So I treat all the good sugar like from the bowl trimmer like gold. I bought several of the Kozo grinders (above) and have a different one for each as well. I originally bought them as spares and gifts, gave a few away, but the only wear on them is from me beating them against something

I'm not a hash person, and other than at harvest I don't actively collect it. I save what is in the grinder until I need to make budder again. But since I decarb it for butter, I like to keep it fluffy. Bubble hash is usually sticky and only good for smoking. So at harvest, all the fan's that I have been trimming go to the bubble-bag. But everything from the bowl-trimmer goes to dry-sift.

I put a picture of the sifter I made earlier in the thread, but the main reason for the dust lid is that I leave all the trim on the screen. It's not air tight, and I just fluff it up several times a day as it dries. Any goodies that fall off during drying fall through the screen, and when it's dry I just gently rub it across the screen and crunch it in my fingers. You don't want to use it like a cheese grater that gets leaves and trichomes.

If I make another sifter, it will have grooves in the wood for the mesh, and I'll use a spline like on a window or screen door instead of stapling it. Easier to remove and clean and/or replace.
