ok This has probaly been asked 1000 times before,

what soils should i buy for super soil, Subcools says Roots organic is GOOD, but than he also says a WIDE varity of ingedants is GOOD also.

so I was thinking of buying 8 bags of difernt soils

I know the hydro shop has
roots organic
ocean forest (FFOF)
Happy frog
Fox farm planting mix
pro-mix

Plus i am sure they have others (i havent been ther in 4 months)

should i use just ROOTS ORGANIC , or make a mix of all brands?

COST IS NOT A FACTOR, I use 10 gallon totes,

My last 2 super soil mixes where (half bacth)
#1 1bag of FFOF, 1bag happy frog, 1.5cu/ft pro-mix BX, Perlite.

#2 1 bag happy frog, pro-mix, mirical grow organic chocie garden soil,

But now I am going to do it 110% no cutting corners

so if I spend $30-$40 more per plant, and it produces a 1/8 more weed, it was worth it.

Sub always says that Roots gives the best flavor and quality. But, ive also read him say that Harvest Moon gives higher yields. ALSO... right now Roots is really hot so i hear... So maybe a 2/3's Roots, 1/3 harvest moon mix would be good... my 2 cents.

i also see that he uses Biobizz light-mix (it dont have any nutes in it) I was thinking about bio bizz All-mix(has nutes).

Right Now id use 6 bags Roots 2 bags Biobiz Lite

Sub

If thats what you are useing, it must be the best way. I was just thinking a WIDER RANGE of stuff mite help, I al ready add more stuff to your mix , I add mutiple Brands of Guanos, worm castings, maxi crop, I am going to use fish bone meal and bone meal, I want a buffet for my plants, i use 10 gallon totes they hold about 8 1/2 - 10 gallons of soil .

I dont mean to not follow your instucions but I think i am going with 5 bags roots, 2 bags bio-bizz lite, and 1 bag undertemend yet. I want a wider range of stuff.

even if the two brands have the SAME stuff in them, it could be form a difernt source!!! just a wider aray of stuff i guess, so far alittle bit of everthing works better than alot of 1 thing...

what kinda ROOTS ORGANICs to get? I see Greenfields, roots organic soil, soilless mix, formula 707 ???

also whats the better worm castings WIGGLE WORMS or BLACK GOLD?

By the way ACE of Spades is tha bomb!!!

While we are asking already answered questions, let me ask one as well.

When the "webbing" appears on the soil when cooking it, do you stir it around and mix it in good, or just leave it alone? I am about one week into the cooking process.

I know Sub is all for experimenting and trying things out. That is how SS came about.I like the idea of alot of different things. Just need to try and find what works best for you.Root organic soil is what he uses in SS. The plain original.

when it comes to base soil, there are generally amended soils, like roots and ocean forest , bio-bizz All, etc, and non amended soils like fafard, bio-bizz light.......etc..

just make sure you use 75% (or so) already amended base like sub suggests....roots is running hot right now, so he suggests "bulking" it with 25% inert base......try not to let the logical mind fuck around with this too much......it is really quite simple stuff.....good luck, one love nugs

both ewc mentioned above are fine.

a bag of perlite, a cube of peat, and a bag of manure. some epsom salts, and trace minerals, and you just made 4 bags of mix for the price of one bag of fancy soil. go cheap and go bland, so you don't over-feed as noobs are prone to do. 1 fella's 2 cents

...but it is the freedom to make personal little tweeks that makes this so much fun.....after all, it is an intimate relationship, that we make intimate through our own involvement....the freedom, the beauty, the expression, the individuality.....true Patriotism ......the joy.........Sub does what he does because it works for him......do what works for you......one love, nugs

right.....all said and done, less is best.....use your intuition.....one of the basic fundamentals of SS is simplicity.....it is designed where you mix it up and forget about it!....then we can be with our plants....after alll your shadow is ultimately, the best fertilizer..... keep it simple!

Do you happen to know much about fafard? My location makes it very difficult to find any worthwhile soil. One garden center in my area carries fafard so I figured I would give it a try. I ended up with Fafard complete (amended). My plants came out fantastic. The only problem was it was loaded with gnats. I had one of the large bags so my small grows took me several grows to use it up. I decided to push my luck and try again, and same thing, loaded with gnats. Of course gnats are easy to deal with, so it wasnt major, but I shopped around after my 2nd bag was gone. Ended up going with Sunshine Mix #4, and I just dont like it.

Do you think going with 2 to 1 fafard complete/fafard professional mix (non-amended) would be good for using in the supersoil mix?

fafard is great, but i would go three to one like sub suggests.....that is assuming fafard complete is similar to roots.....i would add mike though......it is hard to believe that fafard complete would be as complete as roots.....you may want to go 100%........compare the two, follow your intuition.....nugs.
