Super Skunk, how bad is it?

Skunk dope is seven times more likely to trigger psychotic illnesses than traditional cannabis.
Yesterday's warning came as it emerged the super-strong strain is now the most common form on the market, accounting for 70% of seizures.
Skunk contains more than four times as much THC - which can trigger psychotic symptoms such as hallucinations - as normal hash.
Dr Marta Di Forti, of London's Institute of Psychiatry, said: "It is not surprising those who use skunk daily have the highest risk. Skunk is displacing traditional cannabis and availability has increased in the past six years."
A study compared 300 psychosis patients with a control group of 174 healthy people - and found people in both groups had tried cannabis, but skunk was the drug of choice for psychosis sufferers.
The study's findings will be published in the British Journal of Psychiatry.
Last month, Professor David Nutt was forced to step down as chairman of the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs, which advises the Government, after criticising the move to upgrade cannabis to Class B and claiming the drug was less harmful than alcohol and tobacco.

Um, 'skunk' no longer refers to one particular strain really, rather the myriad of strains that constitutes 70% of what is being smoked these days.

A good number of us probably haven't smoked anything that isn't 'skunk', and most kids don't know the difference.

'More THC than normal hash'... Why compare weed to hash, hash is a product of weed and could beads from any strain. I don't think the person who wrote this article knows exactly what he's talking about.

Yes, I think some people (mostly kids) overindulge and 'fry themselves' smoking very very strong sativas all the time, the kind closer linked to psychosis. I mostly smoke indicas and indica-dominant hybrids as I hate that 'I KNOW this is not good for my brain' feeling, and it has little therapeutic effect from a medicinal perspective. If often aggravates anxiety in people so inclined.I think some mellow Thai would do everyone some good however.

Hahahahahhaha...... <deep breath> hahahhahahah

Really? Strange that as an epilepsy sufferer I use cannabis to STOP my seizures.

Take your propaganda elsewhere... (haha properganja!)

i think they mean seizures as in confiscations (ie. "we seized 1000 lbs of weed")

Skunk was a generic term for indica when I was a kid. I`m not psychotic but at times have psychotic tendencies
I had always attributed it to all the meth I did. Thank god I know now it was the skunk so now I can stop badmouthing meth.

superskunk has been my backbone strain for a few years now. it is a rugged plant and easy to grow with great yields but i have 5 or 6 non skunk strains that are much stronger.

This article is 3 years old. As it states, a month earlier Professor Nutt spoke the truth and paid the price for it in this conservative political climate. The article is anti-drug propagandist bullshit.
