Super Hot attic, Is it possible/worth it with AC?

A huge attic, but its bout 100 degrees in the daytime and almost 90 at night. There is a window so u could put in a AC and build a room around. Using a 1k watt though with a cool tube and a 400cfm inline fan to cool the light.

If u had a sealed room with the AC and got a CAP temp controller for the AC do you think the AC would have to run constantly?

Im sure size has a lot 2 do with it as well but dont plan on going very big

It will run most of the time..........400 cfm inline fan might be over kill but will definitely work....should work fine though just gonna cost a little more on electricity

Are the rafters insulated or just the floor of the attic?

If you insulate it you should be able to keep it almost as cool as any other room of the house.

haha.. no insulation at all i believe. the house stays cool but the attic is insanely hot. Just having concern about using a 1kw.

They say 1KW needs about 3500 BTU of cooling. The smallest window A/C is over 8000BTU so you should be good.

An 8k btu window unit cooled a 700 square foot room with a 1k light well with a 400cfm exhaust used as well. Running 24/7, ac did the job wonderfully. Kept the room 60's-70's, when the temp without ac would run 100-110F without the light even on during a hot day.

Using at least 8k btu suggested. They pull about 7-8 amps at this level, make sure to factor your power consumption in. Using an AC in an attic can convert into a proper room. HOWEVER, insulation must be done well, meaning no air leaks or the AC's efficiency will be reduced greatly.

Was just gonna build a small room, frame it and use black and white poly film..Only problem now is there is only one plug in.. no way i can run a 1k and a AC on that....

Any Idea's!?

Maybe ill just drill a hole through the floor

If you have the cash just build a room inside the attic. Frame in the room and use insulation and everything. You can run some romex to the room with more plugs. Then you have a self contained room, easy to keep cool, control the smell and everything. You could also try a grow tent but I think it might be a little too warm in the hot days of summer
