Super excited for new grow with the brand new 400 watter

So after dealing with fluorescents on and off for the past 2 years, I said fuck it and just ordered my first MH 400 watter for $140(good/bad deal?). Can't wait to get the ball rolling. Gonna start some seedlings off in some organic jiffy seed starting soil and then move them into containers that are at least 3 gal. Clones would be a challenge to get, and i'm waiting to order good seeds, so this will simply be a mixed batch of bag seeds. Going to start 6 seeds, but only planning to keep 4 of them. Would like to do more in the future but don't want any more than I can handle right now. I am hoping to get at least a oz per plant minimum, as flourescents can do that and I expect the 400 watter to achieve more.. I am still learning quite a bit so i hope to learn a good bit from you all and vice versa. Really excited to be able to take the trim and make good ole bho at the end of this:) yabba dabba do, happy growin. - Will upload pics when i find a camera to use.:joint:

What grow space?

How long to veg?
Grow space is a closet right now. Perhaps 2.5ft x 5 ft. Not quite sure how i'm going to set it up later on.
Planning on vegging for 4 to 6 weeks, depending on how the plants look at that time.

You'll love it. Order a HPS to MH conversion bulb for flowering and you are all set.
It's gotta be funner to work with than flourescents, that's for sure! Also i'm going to just get a seperate hps, to have both running at once (continuous grow)

Thanks for looking!

6 might be to many for that space. With a 400 I'd be working with more like 3 or 4. But it depends on the size you flower at. If you flower short, single cola you could do 6 if the pots will fit. I have a 4x4 flower pan and 1000W HPS and I have to be careful with my numbers so everyone gets enough light.

Oh and when I'm flowering smaller plants (it's easier for me), I put them in 2 gallon containers for their entire trip through flower. You just have to water then a lot when temps get up there because the larger the soil or soiless the more buffer you have.
hth,

Finally got my 400 watt MH!
The idea is to start off 10 seeds under the two 2ft florescent lights in seed starting soil and let them grow under those for 10 to 15 days, and then going to put them under the 400 watt MH for the remainder of their vegging cycle. After approx 30 days of vegging the plan is to move them under a 600 watt HPS to finish them out.
This HPS seems like a steal, what do you think about it? http://www.htgsupply.com/Product-HTGSupply-1000w-HPS-Ballast.asp 1000W is more than I was thinking but I imagine it would help twice as much? Heat will probably be harder to deal with though? But i'll deal with more heat if it means better quality/larger yields.

Popped some seeds in some starter pots with organic jiffy seed starter soil. Tomorrow will be their first with lights on. Under two 2ft 6500K(maybe7200...) fluorescents for the next (roughly) ten days. Also have the 400 watter hanging up in the room already, ready to be plugged in once they're done with the flourescents. going to order a 600 (or bigger) hps for flowering soon. ooooooohhhh it feels good. sorry no pics (yet).
for the first time instead of using regular water i'm planning on using distilled water as much as possible. i shouldn't run into water problems going that route, right?
