Anyone have experience using sunshine advanced rainforest blend as supersoil and using it as the base soil? I am getting sick of the roots being inconsistent and the fucking gnats I cannot stand! I was looking at the rain forest blend as it is easily available to me.

I just got a bag to add to my ss mix only because i couldnt get another bag of roots. But hopefully it works the same. Did you end up trying it?

I haven't tried it yet but I spoke to one of the reps at a max yield expo and he claimed it was equal to Fox Farms Ocean Forest, so it may be a little hot for a base soil in your SS if it is the same as OF.

Unless I'm missing something, that soil doesn't really have much phosphorus in it. It's got two nitrogen sources (feathers and alfalfa), but seems lacking in the rest...

Ive got a bag of Sunshine advanced rainforest blend supersoil. Its what the local grow shop recommended. A friend of mine is giving me a clone tonight and im thinking of repotting it this weekend and put it in my own pot. I plan on keeping this as a mother plant to keep producing clones on a 18/6 light schedule. If anyone has any info on this soil it would be greatly appreciated. Also im courious about adding nutes when and what kind. This is my very first attempt at growing anything and have no idea what im doing except all the threads ive read on here.

Im very excited on getting this going. Ive been working on building my stealth grow cabinet and cant wait to get started. My cabinet is 36 wide 18 deep and 66 inches tall. Ive got a shelf at 14 inches from the bottom with a T5 4 bulb 23 watt HO florecient fixture mounted to the bottom of it for clones and vegging in the bottom of the cabinet. This is where i plan on keeping my mother plant to keep plucking clones from. Ive ordered a LK400 Lumatek ballast a light hood with 6 inch vents and a Hortilux 400 bulb for flowering. Ordered from hydro galaxy and still waiting on it. Also have a 6 inch fan for venting temps from the light.

Just a side note Hydro galaxy has some of the cheapest prices i could find anywhere but there customer service and shipping sucks. Its beena week already and it still has not shipped yet. Im so pissed but what can i do. I asked if they would upgrade to overnight or 2 day shipping to comensate for there lack of prompt shipping and all i got was a no we will ship it when we can.

Anyways back to my grow. Is this soil good for a transplant of a 2 week old clone with roots and if so what kind of nutes should i use and when should i start with them. Looking to grow this mother quick and big to produce more clones.

Please help first time grower looking for advice.

thanks HMB

I've used it and I did not like it at all. Weak on the npk and plants developed a poor root structure. Just my experience though. Best Ive found other than roots is vermisoil

well even the web site that makes the soil claims that its only good for 2 weeks after that you have to supliment the soil with nutes. Didnt know that when i bought it so ill use it till its gone then will be looking for something better. thanks for the input. Keep them coming. Thanks HMB

Save the Advanced Rianforest for Tropical Houseplants lol If you must use for Cannabis I would not hesitate to amend with Perlite and Bottle Feed accordingly ......

what soil is recommended th emmost around here. If im going to have to spend a bunch of cash on additives I might as well just go get the right shit and be done with it. Incase my local grow shop doesnt have everything all other places offer. lets say we compile a list of the top 3 soils of each individuals likings. So lets see top three soils for producing marijuana.

I like FFOF (Fox Farm Ocean Forest). Give it a go and you can lay off the nutes for several weeks. And - as a lot of liquid ferts are low in minerals like Mg and Ca - well, FFOF provides these. -bioW

I dont know about the rest of you guys but even though I am using super soil, I still amend my base mix as I would if I wasnt gonna run supersoil....

Per bag of base I add (usually my base is fox farms ocean forest and happy frog mixed in a bag to bag ratio)

(some of these are tbs per gal of soil and others are per bag etc...)

1 TBS of lime per gal of soil
6-8 cups of EWC per bag
1 TBS of alfalfa per gal
1/2 to 1 TBS of kelp meal per gal of soil
1 TBS of soft rock phosphate (did not include that this past run)
1 tsp of neem cake per gal of soil
10-15% perlite...

This past run I started using different amendments due to the supersoil... fish meal, fish bone meal, blood meal etc..... I havent really mastered it yet but I'll start by adding 1TBS per gal of soil (IE fill a 5 gallon bucket and throw in 5TBS') with most amendments and see how it goes from there....

If/when I mix up another batch of SS and base, I'm going to find a nice all purpose vegan mix or something.... not sure yet but I plan on making another batch of SS after the new year so I have some time.. But I dont know about roots as I have never used it because I cant really get it, but any of the soil-less mixes I've used need to be amended a little bit... As far as planting seeds I use light warrior specifically for that and rooted clones go right in my base mix fine, not burning them at all.....

I wont get into my backround or my level of skill but I will say this, I popped my first cherry (bean) in 1979. So on that note... Sunshine Rain Forest blend is straight up horrible! Do not use it, do not think you can ammend it, do not think its it lite on nutes for a base soil and do not think it straight up ready to use right out of the bag because its not. Heres what it is, pure toxic crap! Let me say this, after many runs of trial and ALWAYS ERROR it sucks! By 15 weeks youl have nothing to show for your hard work BOTH ON TOP OF THE SOIL AS WELL AS BELOW THE SURFACE. As someone prior to me stated, your rootball wont be a ball at all! Ive been up down and all around with this soil and there is no middle road even with slight deviation. I only wished I saved all my bags to send in for my satisfaction guaranteed refund.
