Sugar Blossom, Rubbermaid/CFL, Second Grow

Hey everyone, I figured I may as well begin a grow journal for my second grow, it helps keep track of progress and what not.

So I just finished up my first grow with the following results:

I was pretty pleased with the results, the smoke is awesome and has gotten better every week (Currently 4 week of curing). I figured my first setup worked so rather than change it up and go for hps etc I'd keep going with what I used first time. I'll learn from the mistakes I made in the first grow and tings should work out.

So for setup:

I have 120 watts of 6500k cfls for veg, and 160 watts of 2700k cfls for flowering.

I used the last of my miracle grow soil /w time released nutes for my smaller pots. When I transfer to their final homes I plan on using MG Organic choice so I will have more control over the nutes the plants receive.

I germinated via paper towel for 2 days and then place in soil under 40w of light. They broke ground May 21 -Here s a pic

So I am at 9 days at the moment and the seedlings have their three point set of leaves in with the next on the way.

Pics probably tomorrow.

Comments welcome:joint::joint:

Question: Do you guys wait to LST until the plants are in their final pots? If not, how do you transfer the string etc to the next pot?

can you get your temp up a little, root's temp is about 5-20 degrees lower then the outside temp and 50 is low for me. i like to keep it around 70 all the time after alot of mistake but i was growimg in a real small place form seed. i had about 2hx1.5ft dand 3ft L. your buds look's good.

Hey jtalo, yeah that pic and the other showing the rubbermaid are just recycled ones from my first grow. I had real problems dealing with low temps in my first grow (like 5C when the lights were off...in a basemen). I had it pretty well worked out near the last half of flowering.

Right now my temps are ranging from 26-29 C with the lights on and 12-15C with the lights off.

You can supercrop and tie the plant to itself. Are you going to get clones this time?
I saw a video of a guy doing super cropping, looks like it might take some practice to get the bending right.

I was planning on building a dual cab for my second grow, but I figured it worked last time so I didn't build it. I want to use up my sugar blossom seeds and than move on to some other genetics so that was another reason to not take clones.

DAY 10

Switched from 24 hours lighting to 19/5 two days ago. I read a post one time I think that said that 19/5 provided the best results but I forget where.

Couple of pics:

So far at ten days they have only had 1 full watering. I've been giving several sprays from a water bottle every other day. They started to stretch a little, but when I put in the rest of lights (40 to 120W) the internode spacing tightened up. (I didn't want to have too much lights/heat for the new seedlings before they could handle it)

Ya don't LST till they are in their final pots. Bro you should so top one of your plants and make a little circle bush of colas. You'll probably get a whole lot more this time around. Anyways looks great and I'm subscribed.

Only 1 full watering in 10 days? Wow, you have great patience my friend. I would be scared they would die! Guess your soil holds water very well...

DAY 12

Nothing much to note. They are both growing well, almost identical rates. At the rate they are going the first 5 point set of leaves should be completely in by the weekend. I will be transplanting so time over the weekend, then I plan on giving it a few days to recover before I began training. I might start giving like 10% of the recommended dose of nutes once the LST begins. I didn't give any last grow and by the time flowering came around some of my leaves were beginning to look yellow ( N def I think). I figure 10-25% of the recommended dosage should keep the plants happy until flowering time.

[edit] Man I just noticed how dirty my rubbermaid is getting after seeing the perfectly white pics from my first grow. I need to clean that thing out.

Here is a comparison shot of DAY 10 to 12:

Here are the rest of DAY 12 shots:

Thanks man, I'll wait till I repot then. :joint:

I tried topping last time (actually tried fim) and screwed up on the female by not taking enough. The one that turned out male actually worked though. I am going to see how the lst goes and maybe top during that process ( maybe top the higher growth the let the lower catch up)

haha, I don't know I kept checking with my finger and the top 1-2" was always moist...... maybe it was that I only had 40w of light on them for the first while that caused the soil to stay moist rather than evaporate? I think I'll be at 3-4 days now.

DAY 15

So the plants were doing good and seemed to be needed water more frequently, so I figured that it was time to transplant to their final homes. Once again I am using the kitty litter containers with the holes drilled in the bottom. The square shape lets me use up more of the rubbermaid's confined space. I reused the pots from the last grow after washing them. I also put screws in along the top edge for when I began training.

The final soil I chose to use is:

Seems pretty good...doesn't have any added nutes...anyone know anything about it? I also added an extra 20% more perlite to the mix. (moistened before using in the transplant):

So here are the plants, showing them in their final minutes in their little pots:

Here is a pic showing the roots....good thing I choose to transplant, they are starting to get real rootbound. I loosened the rootball before transplant:

Right after transplant, showing size difference in pots:

Here they are back in the rubbermaid. I changed the lighting a little bit, I think it will provide better coverage:

And to finish, a size comparison to DAY 12:
