Kudos to you cannadan, never give up. I understand that chiro does not work for everyone and the simplest of actions can have devastating effects on pain. I have to tell you another chiro story to ensure you have all the information I can give you. In 1996 my wife was in a car accident that wreaked havoc on her spine. Years of specialist provided little relief. My wife tried chiro since it seemed to help me. The little actuator was used at which point she cried out in pain, just one single katunk did it. The next day her back showed a red line across every rib. I was like someone painted a picture of a skeleton on her. End of chiro for a few years.

Then I found a new chiropractor and he was good but a bit strong for me. His wife begged me to have my wife come and talk to her (she does advanced chiro) about some new techniques. I did not understand how she new about my wife but it turns out my wife was the talk of the chiro community from her skeletal tattoo of thick red lines. I told her my wife will have nothing to do with skeletal manipulation (never use that word with a chiropractor, they are touchy about it). She explained it is tonal, no table slamming or neck snapping, just pressure points. This woman saved my wife from endless pain and loss of mobility. Used to be 2-6 months for her to recover when she messed up her back, just doing dishes or other housework, now it is 2-5 sessions and she is functional again. I was very fortunate that I could barter fixing their computers for chiro for my wife.

I feel for you on the cold. If I get cold my body seizes up like a statue. I make sure to keep my core warm and it helps a lot. In winter I wear a shirt, heavy sweatshirt and a sleeveless down vest .... in the house. If I have to go out I throw on my leather jacket, no wind get through that one. I am going golfing today and I am going to wear a sweatshirt until I am too hot. That will take a while since I like the heat and do not seem to perspire as much as I used to. I would rather sweat profusely than freeze and seize. I still go out in bare feet when my corn/bunion start burning for a few minutes to cool them off. As long as my core is warm I usually have no troubles with winter.

I noticed since I started taking turmeric my pain from inflammation is almost completely gone. I got my wife and daughter to start taking it and now the both have dropped nabilone and few other meds. So in my opinion turmeric is a wonderful substitute for baclofen and voltarin. Time to get ready for golf,, catch you later.

Well...had a fairly long appointment today...but kinda figured it would be anyways...brought the better half in with me today...lol
Doctor went over most of the usual stuff...continued on a reduction schedule, with the end result of dropping off the aventyl or nortriptyline very soon
for this next 30 days a reduction in the lyrica.

Plus I am considering some acupuncture and will probably go to the place my wife goes....since she swears by it ...for certain things...like a possible reset of my nervous system would be nice...or maybe a reduction in the twitching leg and arm muscles/nerves ...
Either way ,realistically, its not going to be too long before the days will become shorter/cooler and before you know it...boom the cold will be back.
And I know what I will be facing... yikes....
as a former full timer out on the ice in the winter...I have plenty of gear to wear...so that's not an issue...but any exposed skin for me now..can be a challenge..(trust me I know how that sounds)
which is somewhat embarrassing.
I'm pretty sure we have turmeric around here....somewhere....and if memory serves me right ...my wife has been trying to get me to try it.

Like +1. I am so happy for you that you are moving down a better path. My wife and daughter find turmeric helps them a lot as well. Both of them have quit taking Nabilone and my daughter dropped her Voltarin (nsaid). We also take fish pills. Since inflammation equals pain, we have all have a major reduction in pain a few weeks after we started taking it.

I have a plan to help with the cold this winter. Cod liver oil daily and pork fat at least twice a week. My Dad swore by that stuff and cannot remember the cold ever bothering him.

Zoic I have also been taking fish oils but it was the eye doctor who suggested it because of excessive tearing up... in the outside air...
but they did help like you said with inflammation....
This video I found last night pretty much sums up what has been happening in the states and Canada...
They mention the 90mg max morphine for chronic pain patients...imposed by the DEA recommendations.
Funny thing is that 90mg morphine limit ,is also being touted here as well...since when is the DEA a Canadian organization?
We could'not come up with guidelines of our own ?????
Anyone battling chronic pain situations should watch this video...and maybe play it for your doctors too...

well I'm officially off of number 2 no more nortriptyline....woo hoo
next comes the lyrica....though I already know from past quitting on this one..it can be rough.
I'm prepared to sweat profusely. then comes the crawling skin and wanting to be out of your body feelings.
Also you can not sleep but don't want to stand but can't sit for long either or lay down for long.
complete uncomfortable ...oh well I will be keeping a small supply of this in case of massive flare up.
but otherwise I won't be taking it any longer.
Oh and watch that video above if you have not. Pretty much sums up what pain patients are going thru today in Canada

Are you going cold turkey on Lyrica? When the crawling skin and current in my nervous system plagued me weaning off, I would smoke a healthy sized hash joint. It helped immensely more than flower for some reason, but I felt optimistic that 2 or 3 joints of herb would also do the trick. My feeling is the more concentrated, the most quick relief.

Id think 1000 mgs over the day or 250 mg every 4 hours would HELP! ;)

although it has been known to increase side effect s coming off of other meds... just what I heard,,, people on ativan and things like that can put you in panic mode .
.I know yer not on any of them though..its for the others..

ya just can't afford to purchase oil or weed to make it...so I have to wait a while longer.
while keeping an eye on my shit...hopefully I will get some meds soon....
Fortunately no benzo's in the mix...its bad enough already
The wife is fully behind the oil treatments...especially with all the shit going on.

More about Lyrica. My wife was on it first, for her fibromyalgia. She decided to get way from it because it had little to no effect for her. When she reached the max she started having issues with balance and involuntary muscle spasms. For me it was the skin crawling for sure. I am hopeful that once you get rid of Lyrica some of your symptoms will stop as well like it did for the wife and me.

Thanks zoic...
there was a time when lyrica was the only thing that would work...
I would have flare ups,and go to the hospital, and of course they would give me the song and dance about not dispensing narcotics in emerg...
at which time I would pull 3 or 4 bottles of narcotics from my pocket and tell the doctor. these do not work.. and I don't need any more...
I asked them if they would do traction on my neck...no we don't do that here...I asked them if they could do an epidural....he says no we don't do that here....the Doctor then turns to me and writes me a prescription for lyrica...
Really the reason I went to the hospital ...I was looking for some hands on doctoring...but apparently they don't do that there...
Anyhow long story short....the lyrica worked... my pain subsided somewhat..that was 2006-2007...been on it since.
Though I have stopped a couple of times...but only lasted a month or so..

when I was first taking Lyrica, many years ago and the original prescription ran out, that I had gotten from the emergency room doctor
...My GP did the repeats on that one for me.
and since I was only on 3-100 mg per day...she wrote me another script for additional 50 mg sized pills so I could play around with the dose to see what was going to be the most effective, and I believe she hoped I would be able to get by on just lyrica without the opiates or with maybe fewer.
.So I filled the prescription and began to increase my dose.
The one thing she left out ,was what the max dose would be and honestly I did not think to even ask.
It was not until the Pharmacist and I got talking ,when I was back to pick up more lyrica....and he asked what had happened to what I had gotten already.
I told him, what the plan with the doctor was...has he was like .."ok" but it was not until I told him that I was up to 1200mg a day....and his head whipped around and said.."what...1200 mg a day is double the max dose...You can not take that much...." and I was like ---"oops"..

So I found out early...what a recreational dose...was like....the key thing was ...at that dose... lyrica seemed to mimic alcohol.(a substance which I just do not touch period)
with the loss of balance, and staggering, and some slurring of speech was also present.
Plus, the stuff would make you pass out too, just like alcohol would at an excessive dose.
I also found out what it would be like, trying to quit it for the first time...man that was a rough taper...the lyrica itself that is.
Two other details about lyrica....
the first....It made me sing...yep sing...all day, all night and it did not matter what, you were singing about, because for what ever reason,
and all songs made up on the spot and 100 percent original, made sense and could easily follow a theme.
(wonder why they called it lyrica....) would probably be a good choice for aspiring song writers.
The second detail....and one of the most important ones.
You can use lyrica, quite sucessfully, to by pass 99 percent of your withdrawals from opioids or opiates.
You know those first 4 or 5 days of pure hell for most, boom gone with a doubled up dose.
yep even fentanyl, was a breeze to come off, due to the lyrica.
I have heard, gabapentin at high doses, will also help you stave off WD's

Side effects may include uncontrollable singing. You know, compared to vomiting and headaches, that doesn't suck. But it must be a very odd thing for those around you.

It Is...its also odd for me too....of course it could be worse...but you have not heard me sing...lol
In my senior year in high school, the graduating class always performs a song, some popular song of that time. Ours was "I've had the time of my life" from Dirty Dancing LOL.

Anyways, the instructors, after hearing me sing with the rest of the class, requested that I be excluded, or just stand on stage with my mouth shut. I sat in the audience with my parents.

Ouch.

How many of you here have been able to successfully reduce and or quit altogether
with the use of mmj things such as Fentanyl bupe ,oxycodone,hydromorphone,percocet...or the more modern lyrica,gabapentin,cymbalta...baclofen nortriptyline etc
Why did you do it.?? How did you do it? were you successful ? How rough was your titration or withdrawals
What kind of time frame did it take you to switch over completely?
Tell me your story's...if you would like...
I'm just starting out and need to shed 8 or 9 more medications.
Doesn't look like you need anymore replies but here's my addiction story. Slight shortened...

Back surgery fusing 3 vertebrae. On morphine for a week then let go with a script for perkocet. I cut my perks down to 5 pills a day, instead of 10 by smoking weed throughout the day. In 2.5 months they started giving me vicoden @ 10 mg but only took half of what was prescribed while using weed consistently with the meds. Did that for a month and then just quit cold chicken (it can't be called cold turkey if you have weed) without a problem. I have a high substance abuse risk with opiates but if taken correctly with decent smoke I didn't even want to keep dropping pills. I also didn't have the side affects associated with opiates by NOT taking anything in the evening and waiting until after I pooped in the morning before popping any opiates. This was key to reducing that issue.
