Subcool,

First, thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge. I have been alone in my adventures with marijuana and so it is only because of people like you that I find out the secrets of this discipline. I just picked up your book, Dank, and have just cracked it open to see what's inside. I look forward to reading every word. The pictures are amazing. My wife wants to know if any special lighting or coloration was done to your photo's, or if your plants are actually that vibrant?

On the subject of organics...I have read Soma's organic book, and till this point have used Soma's soil exclusively. I only have grown seeds from Soma Seeds and Serious Seeds. All have done very well. I would really be honored to try some of your strains sometime--just don't know how to acquire them. Anyway, Everything has worked fabulously, but I have not achieved the color or size of the buds you present in your book. What intrigues me about your method is that you already have everything in the soil, and only use water. I would much prefer that method (to only add water the whole life of the plant) to save the "guess work" and hassle of adding nutes to the water. Therefore, I would really like to give your method a shot.

I have not gone through all the pages of this thread at this point, so my apologies if I am asking something you have already answered. Feel free to point me to that link, or just copy/paste to save your time.

First, when you finish mixing your soil and you let it sit for 30 days min, do you keep it covered and in the trash bins shown in the photos? What if temperatures drop below freezing? Is this a problem? Does the soil just sit in water (like mud) or do you allow the water to drain out? It seems there would be issues if you left it muddy, but I am sure there is something I don't understand clearly.

Secondly, when you grow from seed (I don't use cuttings as I don't grow year round) do you use 100% Root's soil for the germination and beginning veg phase of the plant? (I have had exceptional results with all Roots products) How tall (in nodes) do you allow the plant to grow before you transfer it to the "hot" soil (mixed with 30-40% Roots soil of course) typically--I know all strains are different, but do you have an average?

Finally, thank you, thank you so much for helping a person like me learn so much about this plant. It has transformed my wife's life and given her hope, joy, and inspiration to really live. She is the reason I went down this path originally. It is because of guys like you, and Soma, that a nubie like me had any hope of doing this with any measure of success. I really hope to meet you someday and shake your hand.

Cheers-

Absolutely Not I use simple CFL's and white sheets along with my Macro rig a Nikon D-50, a Sigma 105 Macro Lens and an EF-140 Macro ring flash. My plants IMO look better in person as the optics nature created always trump something man made.

Without saying anything about Serious or Soma both great breeders I think you will be completly impressed with my gear but know that size is not my driving force taste and potency are what we strive for.

Yes and I like to make my soil up in the summer so it can sit up to 3 months its just crappy to mix and work in cold and wet plus the soil seems to activate better in heat.

What if temperatures drop below freezing?

If the soil has sat for say 4 weeks then freezing wont hurt anything but I would store mine indoors if your talking but cold.

Is this a problem? Does the soil just sit in water (like mud) or do you allow the water to drain out?

The soil is moist not wet and I have had no probs just dont drown it

It seems there would be issues if you left it muddy, but I am sure there is something I don't understand clearly.

I like the plant to be fully rooted and topped but I do not ever let my plants get root bound this is crucial to preventing small yields I almost transplant when the root ball is still forming so that instead of a root plug trying to grow roots the plant dosnt really even know it was ever in a smaller pot I am thinking about 4 weeks with early topping. It takes time my way but end result is a massive bush and I will link you to many tutorials here in a sec.

Thanks some of us simply love the plants AND the culture that supports it I am honored to have a small part in its life.

Everything I know about growing this plant can be found in agonizing detail with pics and arrows if you care to look through 5 years of post :)

Thank you for taking the time to write back, I really appreciate your time.

"Without saying anything about Serious or Soma both great breeders I think you will be completly impressed with my gear but know that size is not my driving force taste and potency are what we strive for."

Exactly how I think. I'm not a dealer so volume is not my end--It just shows that a plant is very healthy when it is grown to it's true potential as shown in your photos. I am all about effect, taste, and just plain good genetics energized through organic means. I believe this plant to be highly spiritual, and human energy responsive. Clearly your plants are responding to your vibration. It's cool to see.

I will contact Hemp Depot and send an order shortly. I look forward to growing your genetics! I have found 3 strains from the descriptions of your plants that look like good matches for what my wife and I need. This is gonna be great!

I'll do some more reading at the link you presented as well as finish up reading this 30+ page (!!) thread.

Thanks again. Hope to meet you and MzJill someday.

Cheers-

Hi Sub,

Your Soil Mix looks amazing! it has taken me 2 days to read through everything in this thread! I have learned so much. What I really can no wait for is the opportunity to try making this mix and perhaps adding a twist of my own on it. my only problem lies where currently i live . because i am so far north i am very limited to what big box stores bring in, such as Walmart, Rona, Home hardware etc... Recently i transplanted my plant as shows in my grow journal! I am attempting to do an Organic grow only. when i transplanted out of a MG potting soil into a 3-4 gallon pot, i was very limited to what i had access too. i have used 5-10% perlite, and the rest is a 50/50 mix of top soil and peatmoss. im not thinking maybe i should have added some bone meal and blood meal and maybe some potash.

can you give me any advice on what maybe to add, or even use for a nutrient mix and im sure the soil i have is only going to give enough nutrients for a while!

thank you so much in advance. look forward to reading more of your articles!

I have been usiing super soil with great success. Except this one problem. I dropped a plant into some super soil. This is the only plant yet I have seen to do this. No gorwth. It was healthy and fine in a little 16 ounce clone pot that I had it in. So i transplanted to super soil and some reg soil like you say and now instead of getting perfect growth I am getting almost none. I did not top it but just lstd it. There was some ozone damage to the plants but that was only for a few das and on the other side of the veg area. That oxone is bad for plants. Very sad. But however I have almost no growth on this plant. Is there a possibilty that this super soil was not ready? I ams orry for the italics. WTF! lol. tired. Anyway if this super soil is not ready I was wondering if a compost tea might help or maybe a transplant inot another batch of soil/ Any thoughts.

a question about moisture content while "composting" your soil.

weather here (inland norcal) has been really hot & dry since i started my first batch (about 1 month ago). when i checked it, it seemed a little dry to me, no surprise.

so, i wonder how to take care of this. should i just add water to the top of the bins, and expect it to percolate down, or should i take all the soil out and mix it up with more water.

the bins are black and out in direct sun several hours a day.

thanks for any help.

Mine also gets pretty dry by summers end I usually leave em open on a rainy day or add a gallon of water to the top.

ok i have been leaning towards organic soil for my choice in growing cannabis. i really am sold on the step by step method. how much would you say the whole batch costs?

Its about 180 if u get good pricing I have made contacts in my area and we buy in bulk so we get stuff not far over cost Roots soil runs around 10$ per bag unless someones marking it upp like crazy the first run may cost a bit more the first run if you buy a large bag of Azomite but you can use it and the lime etc for a few rounds what will bust your wallet is the worm castings which can cost as much as 1$ per pound for pure castings without fill.

I think I beat my guys up to about .45 per pound on castings but its just costly to ship the stuff.

Subcool,I have read this whole thread and others you have wrote as well, you have made it clear that growing is an artform and I certainly learned a wealth of information. I will be building your supersoil this fall and leave it out all winter, it will be good to grow this spring. I can't wait to plunk down some JTR,JB,and Q.

You are an inspiration to all of us, Thank you so much.

Man, after wading through bullshitt for almost a year - yeah the bigest problem i have found in growing is weeding out all the bullshit you find on the net, im so happy to finaly have found a post about organic's that is usefull - THANK YOU!

Now for my big question. NPK calculations. I dont get it. I have a base organic soil - bought in 50 liter bags, where the npk is a little off. So i would like to add some parts in order to buff it up to what i want.

I need for you all to keep this simple :) i need to get the basics in.

Lets say i got 15 - 5 - 15 in my organic soil and would like to pump up the P with 5 (these numbers are taken out of thin air just for this example) Now i do have a P source - 1 kg - 0 - 10 - 0.

If i wanted to use 10 liters of my soil and to pump up the P by another 5 (bringin this example up to 15 - 10 - 15) how the heck do i calculate that.

Would the 0 - 10 -0 of my P source be 10% of the 1kg container and how do i apply this in order to pump up my 10 liters of organic soil?

Im sure this is really simple, but im geting confused by the different size of the containers and they way they are messured.

Soil is cooking. Plants are growing in base soil mix.

Another quick question:

I know you've mentioned that you like to induce flowering when the plants are ~18inches. And since your plants finish in 7-10gal pots, I was wondering when you transplant exactly ? What size pot are they transplanted from and do the transplants veg a little while in the Supersoil before flowering?

Thanks for everything and if you get a chance to reply, I'd certainly appreciate it.bongsmilie

Heya Sub,

Question for you...

I saw somewhere where you run 10 gallon pots and run 2 plants in them.
Do you still do this? I have Querkles on deck and was liking the idea of running 2 per pot

Only with Tiny I would not bud 2 querkles in a single pot

Its already slow as it is :)

I transplant very early so the plant never figures out its in a 1 gallon pot and I go directly to the large 7 gallon one.

I know this is the unanswerable question most of the time, but since you are so familiar with your developed strains I figured I could ask...

What do you expect to yield with your method? I know that weight is largely dependent on genetics, as is potency, but when you start a grow, what are you happy with? Tiny Bomb would be the low end, what's the high end in ozs?

And I have to agree that transplanting early, and at the right time before any real root curling begins, seems like one of those things that so many growers overlook, but is so important to keep things moving. Thanks for the quick reply!

I get 4 off Tiny and 5 off Apollo-13 and jacks Cleaner can go 8 zipps easy

Thanks sub!

Another thing I am confused on is how much SS does Querkle like if I where to run 7 gallon pots? - I see where people run just 1/3 of SS on the bottom AND I see where people run 2/3 of SS...
