this is my first grow and i am having a few problems......... my plany is now about 2 weeks 2days old and it has not grown in height at all in the last week and a half....... when i first planted it, it was growing like crazy for the first four days and then it just stopped, so i repotted it four days ago and found out that the plant was rootbound.... now thats its in the new pot it should grow but its not getting any taller instead its getting really bushy (although the stem has gotten allot thicker)...... i am keeping it under 7 cfls (200w in total)..... also to note i have overfertilized it once in the early days but it was not very serious and i soaked it as soon as i saw the signs..... also about three days ago one of the leaves grew into the bulb and burned half the leaf....the plant is from some bagseed that my friend gave me....... anyone know what is wrong?

pictures taken today.......

damn thats a thick plant. i have never had this problem. hopefully someone with more information can help you out.
my suggestion is to pull that light up about 3 inches and make that bitch stretch.

that could also be the problem...... i have been keeping the lights REALLY close to the plant like 1cm away...... i heard that if you raise the light up that the plant will grow faster and stretch toward the light.....is this true?....... also to make the stem thicker i twisted the stem around within the first week of growth and 3 days after that it got so hard that im afraid to bend it because it may snap.....

yeah just like in the forest the other plants compete to get the most sunlight so they grow taller to evade other plants. that looks way to close to it because it dosnt have to grow anywhere to get good light.

so if the light is too close the plant will not grow because it is satisfied?.......one more thing to note is that she (hopefully) is on a 24/0 light cycle......

wow that exact same thing is happening to me, i have the same light set up and everything. If anyone knows about this it would be good to know.

maybe you need to push the lights back a couple inches, and maybe grab of couple more cfls if possible

i'm no pro but you may have injured the stem when you twisted it (personally never heard of that technique on this site. try a fan!) and the stunt you're experiencing is just the re-coup.

as for a solution to the problem, wait for a real pro to respond

I dont know what to say, could be Ph imbalance, not really sure.

Just let it sit there and see if it changes in a week.

I'm not the most experience grower but here's my 2 cents. Your plant is only 2 1/2 weeks only. In that time, it has been twisted (never heard of this, just get a fan), root bound, and over fertilized. Plus you light is a little too close. Even tho you can your fluoro's real close, when the plants are that young, you may be over doing it. Good job flushing the soil tho.

Don't want to sound critical but with all the stuff this plant has been through in it's early life, you can't expect it to rebound so quickly.....BE PATIENT!!!!! How big is your container? If it's 1 gal plus, you should be good without nutes for a couple weeks, then fert at 1/4 strength. Then up it to 1/2 (depending on nutes). Get a schedule going. Sometimes the trial and error approach is the only (and sometimes best) way. Back off the lights a couple inches, water regulary (no nutes), and just let it get back to growing. Then start using nutes. And with CFL's, the plant won't process the fert. as quick as a HPS or MH. So you don't have to fert as much. Check back in with pics in a week and let us know how it's going. Plants may get a little taller but it's better than not growing (or even worse heaven forbid) at all.

Hope this helps!!!! Good luck.

i think you overestimated the twisting part a bit too much....... its not like i bent it in half i just wiggled it a bit.... and i think its the best thing i have done to the plant so far.... i heard about the twisting thing from a growing tutorial on youtube......

I guess it's ok if your not, like you said, bending it in half but I just don't see the point. To get a strong main stem, a fan is the universal rule of thumb. Maybe for experimental purposes and if it doesn't harm the plant it's fine. Interesting tho. If it doesn't hurt the plant, fuck it right?

yea i have a fan running 24/7 also....... but it seemed to really help the plant now the main stem is like an oak tree, before the plant fell over because it couldn't support itself so i had to steak it.....

i think its the way the CFLS are positioned cause i had mine like that and i was getting so mad and i put it out side in the sun for a few days and it spread out and the bottom leaves grew out more. Now im using a long flouro and its working really well.
