US sinks 3 Houthi boats in Red Sea after attack on merchant ship
The United States sunk three small Houthi boats in the Red Sea early Sunday morning following another attack on a merchant ship as tensions continue to rise in the region.

U.S. Navy helicopters from the USS Eisenhower and the Gravely responded to a distress call issued by the container ship Maersk Hangzhao — the second distress call the ship issued in less than 24 hours due to “being under attack by four Iranian-backed Houthi small boats,” according to the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM). CENTCOM said that the boats, which originated from Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen, fired at the Maersk Hangzhao and attempted to board the vessel after getting within 20 meters of the container ship.

The U.S. Navy helicopters were responding to the distress call and starting to give out verbal orders when the Houthi-controlled boats fired at them with crew-served weapons and small arms. The helicopters sunk three of the four small boats and killed the crews, CENTCOM said.

“The U.S. Navy helicopters returned fire in self-defense,” CENTCOM said in a statement.

The fourth boat fled the area. CENTCOM said that no U.S. forces were injured and there was no damage to U.S. equipment.

This exchange comes as attacks on shipping vessels claimed by the Houthi rebels have increased since Israel declared war on militant group Hamas on Oct. 7. On Saturday, the U.S. also shot down two anti-ship ballistic missiles that were fired by Houthi rebels toward Maersk Hangzhao on the Red Sea, CENTCOM said Sunday.

The Maersk Hangzhao said they were struck by a missile earlier on Saturday, according to CENTCOM.

“This is the 23rd illegal attack by the Houthis on international shipping since Nov. 19,” CENTCOM said in a statement.

Importing homosexuality? Wonder if the Prez has a tape or two come in the mail of some f-f action? Maybe one big rock aimed right between the eyes of the Prez?
Burundi’s president says gay people should be stoned
Burundi’s president said gay people should be stoned, amid a larger crackdown on the LGBTQ community in the East African country.

“If you want to attract a curse to the country, accept homosexuality,” Burundi President Evariste Ndayishimiye said in a question and answer session with journalists and the public last Friday, according to Reuters.

“I even think that these people, if we find them in Burundi, it is better to lead them to a stadium and stone them. And that cannot be a sin,” he continued, claiming homosexuality is imported from the West.

The Burundi leader’s remarks come amid growing concern over anti-gay statements and laws across the African continent. Burundi already criminalizes same-sex sexual activity, with sentences of up to two years in prison.

A gay human rights activist in the country who spoke with The New York Times on the condition of anonymity said Sunday that the president’s comment “worsens an already unsafe environment.”

Ndayishimiye’s remarks come months after Uganda enacted an anti-gay law that drew condemnation from human rights groups and international political leaders from both sides of the aisle in the U.S.

The law imposes harsh penalties on those who identify as homosexual, including the death penalty for “aggravated homosexuality.” The country defines this as cases of sexual relations involving people with HIV, along with minors and other vulnerable people, The Associated Press reported.

A person convicted of “attempted aggravated homosexuality” can be imprisoned for up to 14 years. The law and continued harassment of LGBTQ members have prompted some to attempt to flee Uganda

The State Department earlier this month announced an expansion of a previous visa restriction policy targeting “those believed to be responsible for, or complicit in, undermining the democratic process in Uganda.”

The policy now also applies to officials or others who were behind or complicit in “policies or actions aimed at repressing members of marginalized or vulnerable populations.”

Uganda argued the U.S. is pushing an “LGBT agenda” in the wake of the Biden administration’s pushback.

Santos pitches himself to Trump for future administration role
Former Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.), who was recently expelled from Congress, made a pitch on Tuesday to serve as former President Trump’s director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) if Trump wins his bid to return to the White House in 2024.

“My new year resolution is that President Trump returns to the white house and in 2025 I can be appointed Director of ICE,” Santos wrote in a post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

“Enough abuse and disregard for our sovereignty, we are the United States OF America and not a global dumping hub. ICE has had their hands tied for far too long with the sole exception of the great four years of DJT,” Santos wrote, referring to Donald J. Trump by his initials.

“The time is now,” Santos continued. “And that’s why I’m putting my name in the mix for a role that will take grit and a fearless person and not a coward that will fear media spin. Bring it on #MSM I’ll take you all on again with glee.”

Santos interacted with media frequently during his time in the House, as he faced numerous political scandals that ultimately led to his ouster last month, in a 311-114-2 vote. The New York Republican is the sixth lawmaker ever to be expelled from the lower chamber.

Santos faces 23 federal criminal charges related to allegations that he misled donors, fraudulently received unemployment benefits, lied on House financial disclosures, inflated his campaign finance reports and charged his donors’ credit cards without authorization. He pleaded to not guilty to all charges. The House Ethics Committee also released a scathing report finding that there is clear evidence Santos committed serious crimes, which helped compel some holdouts to vote for the embattled lawmaker’s ouster after two previous attempts to expel him failed.

Santos initially pledged never to return to Congress, but recently said he would consider running again. He has not indicated whether he wants to stay in politics through his career.

In the post on X, however, Santos said he knew “exactly” what was needed to lead ICE properly and made an informal public bid for the hypothetical position.

“It’s time to reclaim our country and if you believe the nonsense numbers the media is giving you then you are accepting the big lie! We have over 50M+ people who have invaded our sovereignty over the years due to careless and neglectful immigration policy, if given the job I know exactly where to start and run the much needed raids of removals proceedings this country needs,” Santos wrote.

"Because you know I will be milking it for all it is worth."

Former Kentucky clerk in gay marriage case must pay additional $260K
The former Kentucky clerk who refused to grant a gay couple a marriage license must pay an additional $260,104 to the couple, a federal judge ruled last week.

David Ermold and David Moore sued former Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis in 2015 after she declined to issue the couple a marriage license because doing so would violate “God’s definition of marriage” and her religious beliefs as a Christian.

The additional fees Davis must pay are on top of the $100,000 in damages she was ordered to pay Ermold and Moore in September after losing the lawsuit the couple brought.

Davis’s legal team argued that the proposed attorneys’ fees put forward by the couple’s lawyers were too much, saying that the fees should be reduced by more than 50 percent. U.S. District Judge David L. Bunning sided with the couple and awarded them $246,026.40 in attorneys’ fees and $14,058.30 in expenses, according to court documents published last week.

Bunning said that the couple’s requested attorneys’ fees were “reasonable” in his order.

“Plaintiffs not only prevailed, but obtained the result sought. They sought to vindicate their fundamental right to marry and obtain marriage licenses; and they did so,” Bunning said in the order.

Liberty Counsel, the law firm representing Davis, said in a press release they planned to file a motion this month “to reverse the jury verdict” from September that granted the couple $50,000 each. The law firm said Bunning’s order allowed them to file a motion to reverse the jury’s ruling “because there was insufficient evidence to award the plaintiffs monetary damages.”

“This case is far from over. Because of Kim Davis, every clerk in Kentucky now has the freedom to serve as an elected official without compromising their religious convictions and conscience,” Liberty Counsel founder and Chairman Mat Staver said in a statement.

“This case has the potential to extend the same religious freedom protections beyond Kentucky and to overturn Obergefell v. Hodges, which was wrongly decided and should be overturned,” he added.

The Supreme Court’s landmark ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges in 2015 gave same-sex couples the right to marry.

Someone should inform “Liberty Counsel” that the only real freedom of religion is freedom from religion.

Penny Universities were the first coffeehouses in London in the 17th century. For the cost of a penny customers had access to coffee, newspapers, and conversations with good company. The cost only being one cent brought together people from different social classes and economic backgrounds.

About — Penny University

Why were coffeehouses banned?

In 1675 King Charles II made an attempt to shut down coffeehouses with an edict. King Charles II stated that coffeehouses “have produced very evil and dangerous effects,” and were also a “disturbance of the peace and quiet realm,”.
