Strip Build 2ft strips, EBgen2 vs EBgen3 High output

Hello,

For my strip build i want to use my HLG 320H 24B.
I'm aiming for 250-300 watts.
I want a efficient light, but i search the sweetspot price/efficiency wise.

My idea is to run strips without heatsink and just build them in a frame.
I can't decide wether i would go for EB gen 2 or EB gen 3 High output.
Pricewise EB gen3 high output seems verry good, dont know how these strips can handle 2.8amps?

If i compare them this is what is looks like:

Eb gen 2:
Test current: 700mA x19.5V=13,65 watts
Diodes per strip: ?
Strips needed: 22 strips.
Total price: €87
Total lumens: 52580
€ per 1000 lumen: €1.60


EB gen3 High output
Test current: 1.4A x19.2V=26 watts
Diodes per strip: ?
Strips needed: 12 strips.
Total price: €78
Total lumens: 59520
€ per 1000 lumen:€1,31

Am i missing something?
The gen3 seems cheaper, even without heatsink costs.
Are my numbers to run them passive right?

look at the gen3 90cri. they should be around the same price.

there's another thread where someone got the HO but the info stamped on the strip did not match the datasheet and Bridgelux did not give a decent answer. I think its still unresolved as to what their real max is.

I originally wanted to go strips no frame as well. Thought I'd save a bunch of money. Man am I happy I got aluminum frame. My lights run super cool. But more importantly I'd have broken them about 10000000 times by now if they were not backed on aluminum. I expect them to live a good life as the fixture only ever gets 1-2 degrees above ambient.

Also about running them passive. Running them at nominal traditionally means they will passively cool at reasonable ambient temps. But the eb gen 3 high output has double the capacity of the normal eb gen 3 strips. With seemingly the same dimensions and everything. Well that means it will give out twice the heat in the same area. This may actually still passively cool. And I bought 100 of those strips in 4ft and was gonna run them. But decided against because the actual PCB listed a max of 1.4a instead of 2.8 as listed in the data sheet. Tried to contact bridgelux about it and couldn't get clarification so I quit. Lol. But another user did a build with heat sinks and it it was fine.

Here's the rating at 1.4a when the data sheet says 2.8a max eb gen 3 high output

Strange that it says 1400max
In my situation.. wich one would you prefer?
Eb gen 2 OR gen3 ho?

If those are the only two options then I guess the High output.
But there's other strips that ar better value I think. Like the gen 3 slim or just gen 3 normal should give you more output per $$$ and are known to run passive easily. I ran eb Gen 3 slim at 0.7a with no heatsink for over 24h no problems. Like warm to touch. Really so I think the high output might be fine at nominal but it will probably just get warm. Remember current drives heat not voltage.

I also took a look at the slim line, cant find ''normal eb gen 3''
Right now i think EB Gen2 is the best bang for the buck.
