straight in the ground or containers?

So I'm going to be growing some large strains this coming summer and I'm wondering if I should just put them straight into the garden, or like dig out some soil, put down some plastic or whatever and put in my own soil?

I'm thinking I will have to feed quite a bit since they are large plants and I will be able to do this more efficiently if I create some type of large container type deal in the soil. Like a separated bed sort of thing. Then again it would be easy to put it straight into the ground, and my garden has pretty good soil. I've grown everything from corn and tomatoes to watermelon, pumpkins, and peppers in there just fine.

Any advice for a first time outdoor grow?

Alright thanks everyone. Ground it is. I'm a medical patient so I don't need to be moving them around or anything. I've got a nice pile of composted chicken manure I can add to my hole too!

I grow for personal use only and I'm sure I'm not nearly as big a smoker as some of you, so I prefer variety over quantity. Personally I prefer to grow 3 small 6 - 7' plants of different strains in 10 gallon containers rather than trying to grow 12 foot, 5 lb. monsters which would be a huge waste of resources and weed for me. Even with small plants, I still have some 2.5 year old buds in my closet that I'll either use for brownies, or end up just throwing them away.

Everyone's needs are different which explains why there's no single right answer. Best of luck on your grow!

if you have good soil with good drainage than just go straight into the ground.I have poor soil so I dig a large hole and fill it with potting soil to create an "in ground planter" for my trees and flowers

In the ground if its a good spot. Grow much larger, uniform temps, wont dry out and blow away or die and of course much larger yield but that depends on size.
Pots you can move around but you have to stay on top of things or they can be stunted severely if you miss a watering. Will blow over on you as well.

Some plants are finicky to ph levels so lime your dirt if it needs it.
