Stop cutting your clone stems at a 45! There's a better way to get a white beard growing.

Some strains like MAC are a pain to clone. Strawberry Cough and God Bud are hard to get to root. Zkittlez and Gorilla Glue are ok but I found with bag seed mothers and weak thc strains are so easy with 5 days seeing first roots. My buddy just bought a cloning bucket online and said he has success. I went to a cloner. A bubbler and then after slime and 100% fail after two attempts I converted it to an aero cloner which failed horribly too. I went back to ph'd rockwool cubes and a heated tray with a dome. This time around I got 3 large trays of clones off for my friends and to fill my flower room up 100% success until the mothers root bound. Now im at 14 days with no roots and yellowing(feeding on itself) leaves and before roots were at 7 to 10 days consistently.
I'm not this bad, but it sounds similar. Some strains clone at 95% for me and others under 50%. I've tried a hydro bubbler/cloner and the rockwool. Fucking joke.

Also would PM on the cuttings slow down the rooting process or kill the clone?? I been spraying the mother plants with IPM treatments before I take the cuts though.

Cloning a plant with PM is a colossal waste of time.

I guess this concentric circles is Greek for scraping the hard outer part of the stem off from about an inch from where you cut it, or bottom of the clone. I have been doing that for a while, it does help quite a bit.

Can you post a video of this or someone about the second cut. I've had issues with clones since day 1 which was like 3000 days ago smh.
I feel ya!

I appreciate the OP, Cannaclysmic Events, sharing practices. A nice thread to invite a lot of expressed perspectives on cloning.
Is the pic here on post 62 of this thread, the diagram we need to know the deets? like the method of this second cut? Is that the red line?

For those of you that use promix for rooting clones, do you add anything to the promix?

Thx!

I just take a pair of scissors and cut clones. I stick them in a cup of water while taking them. Small container of moist coco. Sometimes rooting powder sometimes not. I always have roots in 7-10 days. For rooting powder just the cheap Miracle-Gro Fastroot powder. They're all just IBA anyway so brand doesn't matter. I've used honey as well. Always roots.

Taking clones and getting them to root successfully is an extremely simple process. It's not complicated at all. As with everything related to growing cannabis there are always going to be those that fail at such a basic task regardless of how simple or complicated they make the process.
I keep it simple too, I just cut them, I don't use any special angle or method to cut them, iso sterilized scissors.. They all root the same, I have been using no rooting hormones for almost a year now without problems in Root Riots. Big key is keeping domes/trays properly moist and everything will work out, always take a few extras just in case some wilt or fail.

Cut desirable branch > clean off excess foliage > stick into root riot > put into 10x20" propogation tray with humidity dome (always closed) and mist daily with plain water. I always get viable healthy clones within 14 days with no special tricks or techniques beyond what I mentioned. Cut Branch > Stick into Root Riot (any medium should work that stays wet), mist daily and viola.

Crazy how many people talk s on this technique. After I understood it, it seemed obviously to be an optimization. This is an excellent technique and I'm grateful you shared it!!!! Keep experimenting !

Hey thanks man! I appreciate that more than you know. I don't understand the push back either. I always understood the plant and flower quality reflect the health and mass of the roots. That's the underlying principle all systems are built from. So I can't understand why anyone would be so close minded to optimized rooting of clones. I've been meaning to make an updated post as I've tweaked the method a touch recently and tried it in some hydroponic and film tech applications. The most substantial change probably is in the tools. I was wiring up a new audio system on the bike and realized wire strippers are the perfect tool for making the concentric shallow cuts. I don't scrape the surface at all either, just the cuts and a dip in clonex. It's pretty cool to see them spawn thick new roots from the cuts. A few clones will develop essentially a seemless tap root from the bottom. That was very surprising to see.

Back when I was making 30-50 clones a month I was going good at it, but I think I’ve lost my touch!

Impossible!
It's like riding a bike (and other things) - you don't forget how, you just get more practice!

The ONLY reason I cut stems at an angle is to penetrate the GH bu** plugs because I insert them UPSIDEDOWN in the rubber biscuit, then into the horti trays...
I use Rootech gel because it's got a little bit more IBA than the cheapest powders.
That and a squirt of super thrive and a little Clonex in the magic gwavy and shake the voodoo rattle several times and wait for the fireworks to begin...
