This is a small Lemon Kush I left outside last winter. I live in Southern Cali, so no snow. Saw a couple frosts.. This plant turned purple, some didn't. I'd say the its genetics and temps that effect color change. I have other seeds from a few breeders that are supposed to express colors other than green, because they were bred that way. A plant produced color, they bred it out, looked for more seeds from that plant that produced by color, bred those out, repeated over and over again. Its both temperature AND genetics.

You're just fucking around.

This is what you get after bad pH or no pH swings. Not really sure what your regiment was for this plant but It's stunted and didn't get access to phosphorous during flower.

Unfortunately, I'm not here to debate. My regiment was clean, don't need to detail it for you. I started it from seed, outdoor, in the middle of December, and topped it. Cold and short days. Growth is slow when cold. These were for shits and giggles, just to see if I would get color change. I had others growing just fine at the same time using the same regiment. Don't instantly attack someone for giving an example. Back off.

The question is 'why' the plant produced colour in the first place?

If breeders just thought purple was cool and bred those particular strains to satisfy public demand then thats their choice but it goes no way to describe why the plant was exspressing purple in the first place.

I can cite this but it has already been said this is quite complex for the average grower.

In the cold reduced transpiration levels, shorter cells and thermo protection are most beneficial (as in most cases of stress) anthocyanin offers this protection to some extent so the plant makes use of it.

The fact still remains that if you strip away the chlorophyl of a healthy plant you will find anthocyanin just it dosent show due to the abundance of chlorophyl.

I suggest that a lot of different stresses cause this reaction and hence why most growers will experience it at some point.

Don't be defensive! your taking my comment as a personal attack and its not.
I just can't tell you its definitively one thing or another without all the information.
But with an attitude such as yours whats the point I guess.
good luck brah!

Relax guys im sure we would all like to attribute purple in our plants to one certain aspect like cold temps or breeding genetics or complicated stuff like what i touch upon but things are never that simple and im not trying to say its one thing or another rather that it encompasses a wide variety of plant functions.

Hec i think purple anthocyanin has even has chelation properties.

What i was suggesting is we consider all possible angles and hey lets not forget just how complex and multi functional plants are, if they can adapt they will, if they can utilise somthing for more than one task they will.

Just a side note on your lemon kush, most cold related purpling i have ever seen or had, which is not very often, has been mainly on the leaves...

One could easily put 1+1 together and postulate that in cold/freezing temps the leaves are the most vunerable organ of the plant and most exsposed.

If i was a plant and cold temps were a'coming id be protecting my leaves first.

This varies to the purple stem and petiole only purpling ive seen.

I dont see many pushing the vpd correlation between temps and rh and not seeing it talked about much.

Some same basic rules seem applicable i.e. make sure relative humidity is 10 less than temps i.e. 70°f - 60%rh or 60°f - 50%rh etc etc.

There are pictures of what the reported damage is like from growers who went out of safe levels and its widely reported to look like nute deficiency.

I find that at 70%rh and over things are starting to get dampish so hitting 25°c is quite challenging in a way humidity wise.
Because that's what is what VPD is! The correlation between temps and RH.....
Why baffle the masses with something that simply monitoring or maintaining a set value of temps and RH will render as moot?

Like I said before.....Do you actually see it (VPD) covered in growing books? NO......The only time I have had to deal with it was in school....The only people I see now actually making any use of it is in greenhouse's doing commercial plants (not cannabis)...

So then, again, whats the point? Your making a mountain from a mole hill!

Present Vapour Pressure Deficiet Readings-

Temps 24.5°c
Humidity 59%

Vpd - 1.25K/pa

Yikes :-O thats the max upper limit, time to drop temps or turn up humidifier.

Damn i need more automation!!!

More automation....
Why not? All mine are!
It's called a programmable thermostat...connected to a furnace and central AC. Air exchange on a programmable timer and C02 generator on a Co2 monitor...Each work in tandem to the other......All we do is water and walk away (water only soil)..

Boom done!

im not questioning vpd but i am seriously getting into it, at 1.25k/pa my leaves are perky as hell.

My intrest is in maintaining it now and if greenhouses are using certain procedures and your not then thats your loss. Quite easily and many times i would have over run that 1.25k/pa if i hadnt known.

Please stop with the reacurring theme that anything modern or greenhouse or costs money is bad, you might be on a budget but im allowed to spend on my hobbies plus long term who cant afford some nice gear.

All im hearing is pipe down and stick to the simple ass crap (that i did years ago whilst roaching my grow books because they were shit and didnt substitute hands on experience).

Says general marijuana growing not budget non topic site last time i checked and if people dont post back threads would bum and id soon loose intrest in talking about it, generally purp threads dont and lots want to give opinio., advice and experience.

Sorry but

You don't get it do you?

VPD is set in the given value of optimal RH and temps for growing MM..Greenhouse's growing things like Poinsettia's pay more attention to VPD then we ever would have to ...You just found something interesting while googleing an thought it would make you look better or more knowledgeable......

Your failing.

bro the attitude was yours.

Your take on that plant is sketchy. You have access to a sap analysis? or other data? lol

Blaming problems with outd oor plants on pH issues sounds like bullshit to me.

Genetically guaranteed to turn purple regardless of how optimal you environment is...KISS man, and actually go grow and not worry so much
Where does it genetically state it produces purple in seedling or veg stage? I would need citations here if possible for follow up.

I do grow, thats not an issue and plants look just fine. My grow room is not the hot topic here unless i was able to run side by side for documenting here.

The breeder? This is her flagship strain. Go check it out, I left plenty of clues ala the name Melvantic, or Buckeye Purple, again, as I had already mentioned in the thread, or your last thread on the same subject, it's quite confusing when people do that...usually it's beginners who don't like the answers they get the first time...

21 days in flower here...Melvan states that she used to have a green pheno come out everyonce in awhile but now that she is at f4 and later it's just purple

Dude this better than anyone teacher attitude comes from others who get big headed and think they are the authority on noob boards.

Generally i stick to my threads when discussing subjects although i do make the odd comment on other threads from time to time.

You will not find anywhere me touting this so called angle on anthocyanin thats so bad to talk about except here either.

If you feel the need to point out tbat im unfairly scooling peeps on their threads then please bring that up here and now but i doubt youll find more than impartialness mainly.

This is my thread and your free to post, disagree even call me a dick and watch the door on the way out but going round calling peeps a teacher and spreader of mis information is low.

Again i grow plants why wouldnt greenhouse stuff and vpd tweak me as topics of conversation.

If i have disagree with members there will also be times i agree with them so none of this is personal but i hope you appreciate that i like to post here now and again and probably wont change :-)
