Sterilized Soil

I read that you need to use sterilized soil or else you'll have parasites.

I do not want to do the whole oven cooking method as my house will stink like crap. So i went to the local home depot/ lowes and asked which soils were sterilized. They all gave me blank looks.

So, i'm asking which brands of soils are sterilized? Fox Farm is not an option for me as I don't like having things shipped to my house.

I am asking which of the brands that are found at homedepot/lowes would be "sterilized".

I saw some miracle gro organic......that had 3 months of "plant food" in it. I thought organic soil had nothing in it. Is this soil sterilized? I also have some scotts top soil premium at home that i use to grow my vegetables. Is the scotts topsoil safe to use?

What happens if my dirt has parasites? will the plant die? Or will there be some diseases spread? How do i get rid of them without cooking the soil, if the plants already in the soil?

Thanks a lot guys. I know it's a lot of questions, but the FAQ didn't have the answers to my questions.

Go to a nursery and get an organic potting soil. It'll be fine. I don't like Miracle Grow.

You want pest free soil and most that is prepackaged will be pest free,.. althouh I got some miracle grow organic from lowes once and it had mites. Might have picked them up while it was at Lowes, but still. I don't like Miracle grow,.. it's too coarse.

Sterilizing soil would kill off all of your beneficial bacteria. The plants would have a harder time taking up nuts without them.

Any soil is probably safe to use, but if you want to get the most out of your plants, you need to pick up the right stuff. If your dirt has/gets pests, kill them. Get familiar with your nursery and the products they carry. They'll probably have a selection of organic pesticides.

What you want is a good quality neutral PH if you can find it... I was of the school that I needed sterile soil, when in fact you need some good bacterias in your soil... stay away from cheapass $1.99 stuff.. and stay away from MG, and other pre nuted and moisture control unless you know what you're doing... these can be problematic and if you don't know your shit you'll have(may) trouble. Its better to add nutes and water yourself... Thats how you learn.. plus you can add easy... removing is a bitch...IMO
Scotts is good.....
