Stems of Buds Turning Woody

Hey fellow growers - I am someone can shed some light on a problem I have discovered... I am in the Southern Hemisphere and my outdoor plants are literally days away from reaping. They have been healthy throughout, but today I noticed one of the buds coming off a foxtail branch looked like it was dying - just the single bud on an otherwise very healthy looking foxtail. On closer inspection I saw that the little stem connecting the bud to the foxtail had gone completely woody and had died. I panicked of course and carefully checked the whole plant. I found one other place where it looked like the stem of a lower side-shoot coming off a branch is starting to go woody as well - I have uploaded a photo. The weird thing is, the rest of the plant looks very healthy - no sign of any kind of fungal disease and no issue with pests. I’m not overly concerned because as I said, I am days away from reaping - but I would really like to know what has caused the issue. Anyone have any ideas??

IME-I wanna say inconsistent watering. The plant must've experienced a longer than usual dry period down under and then when it got water, caused the joints to split. My best guess as forgotten knowledge lol Also can be environment relating to Sun scald I think.

Thanks for that advice Highlife42 - much appreciated, and I think you could be bang on the money. It’s the only one of my plants that is in a bucket and yes, watering has been a bit sporadic.
Now I have another question if you don’t mind... as I explained earlier, I am days away from reaping but I am struggling a bit with identifying amber trichomes - I only have my iPhone camera magnified x10, and to me the trichomes still look clear/cloudy but the buds themselves are huge and the branches are being weighed down by how heavy the foxtails are, and they are glistening and sticky and stinky and all the pistils have curled up and gone brown (have noticed today though that new little, white pistils have started growing through the curled up, brown ones). Anyway, today I also found a couple of buds that have been affected with bud rot.... I checked the whole plant and found a couple, so thankfully it is by no means widely spread and I have removed the bud rotted buds. Unfortunately our weather at the moment is wet and very humid - perfect conditions for bud rot, so my question is: should I leave the plant for another week or until I start seeing more amber trichomes, or is it too risky with the bud rot threat and should I just reap ASAP??? Your advice, again, would be much appreciated. Have attached a couple of photos showing trichomes FYI.

Youre welcome. Hope Im helping.

If im honest- its totally a personal choice after all the hard work put into growing. With that said before and so I can make a better opinion. Do you have any more photos? Maybe from 4-5" away, and then maybe the whole plant? Thanks. LMK

Damn! Lol That thing is a beast. That tree trunk probably has rings to it. Lolol. Very nice looking. Given the symptoms of before as well; She looks ready. Risky for another week, sure.-Bc of the bud rot/fungi that invaded. But also not if that has been contained and its drier now. I will let you make the choice. The drying on this one is going to be important though:)

Thank you both for your advice
What is about the total age of them and how many days since flipped to flower? They look pretty good. If they arent putting on a lot more weight then i would say its time. Most of the hairs look brown to me.

It was given to as an established clone and being outdoor grown I didn’t have the control to force the flip, but it started flowering around beginning of December last year.
I don’t think the buds are gaining anymore weight so I reckon I will go ahead and reap.
Thank you so much for the advice

yeah I also think it’s risky with the weather we’re having at the moment - so I guess today is the day!!! And yes, you are right - drying and curing need to be done right!
Thanks again for all your advice
