must be man. if you have a fan moving the stems they should of built sturdier stems. maybe its something that is breaking down the cell walls inside the stem and the plant doesnt have the rigidness that it would of if the cell walls were 100%. thats my biology guess lol

I have been having trouble with weak stems too....I really don't know what the long term solution is, but you have to support them, otherwise their stems may get fucked up....which is REAL BAD. So, your going to have to help them up until they can get stood up on their own. You get can get supports from any gardening store. Don't totally support them, otherwise they won't have any stress to build up the lining of the cell walls. Good luck....

fo sho ya i cut styrofoam cup in half then up the middle so its supporting it.
also i see theres fungus on the top of my rockwool probley because i top feeded for 2 weeks by pouring water and nutrients on it, so since fungi needs air light to survive i put mylar on my rockwool and put a split in it so it slides perfectly thru the stem, hopefully this will help till iget the anti fungi spray or what ever at the grow store.

I have the same problem you do. I've got plants with big fat healthy stems and then down at the base the stem is skinny, brown and withered. I can't tell if it's just a function of the plants growing so fast the stem can't support the weight or like you said its a fungus problem, or perhaps a nutrient deficiency. I've got a coupe of plants that are 15 inches tall and look healthy with a fat stem, except for the skinny, withered part. If I didnt have supports holding the plant up it would fall over and die.
