If you want your mom to lose the place, then neglecting the odoriferous aspect of stealth growing is going to land you in trouble. If the police don't like maybe because of the color of your skin, your politics, or they just don't fucking like you, they will bust you for two plants. Don't ever assume you are safe. You aren't. Growing weed is illegal in a lot of countries. I don't know, and don't want to know which one you are in, but be careful. I shouldn't have to say that but, for real.
On that note, you are asking a lot of homework questions already covered at newbie central of course. And the CFL subforum is great too. I grew a rather puney but still kickass indica that made me forget I had a body altogether and all I used was 1 100w equivalent 2700k (2300 lumens I think?) CFL light and 1 46watt (true power) 2700k CFL, some soil I liberated from a potted house plant, and a makeshift stealth box with no fan.
Of GREAT INTEREST to everyone who grows or just smokes pot is the cheap DIY carbon filter howtos. Aquarium activated charcoal contained by some fabric, evenly distributed over some opening, with air pulled through it will scrub odors of all kinds. Many of these filters can be built in a lunch break for less than $20. They are essential. My room stank and I could have easily put a lot of people through hell for my recklessness.
Weed stinks. There is no denying it. Don't think you can hide it with candles. Do the right thing and filter your air. Also keep your room clean, no soda bottles, no fast food drinks, no food wrappers, no crumbs, no dirty dishes, etc. Insects will be attracted to this and may easily spread to your closet space.
As for where to grow, the closet is a good place. Cheap large cabinets can usually be had that would probably be much larger and easier to get a cooltube into. I think surplus stores of all kinds, thrift stores, consignment places, they will all have cabinets like I speak of. But using your closet is more than ok.
Light leaks are the other thing that can make your life miserable. Aside from snitches catching a glimpse of El Dorado, siblings, family members, neighbors, friends, or even worse acquaintances may see it and get curious. Some of these people may end up breaking into your house or telling someone else who will.
And lastly, for similar reasons, don't ever, ever, ever fucking tell anyone. I don't care if you are fucking them/in love etc. If you don't have to tell someone, don't! You will get robbed or snitched on. It will happen. As proud as you will be, and I know that pride well, you MUST keep it on teh down low and only brag online, as anonymously as possible.
Now, growing pot should be fun (if youve the luxury of not being a medical user) so considering how unfun prison/jail/fines can be, stay safe and keep it secret. At the same time, if your first doesn't turn out good do not fret. Trying becomes doing and doing becomes mastering and mastering becomes contentment. You will get it, eventually.

P.P.S. - the antique could probably house your clone plant and your closet could probably hold a rubbermaid box or two (stacked) with 16oz or 20oz coke bottles filled with soil and tiny 12inch clones. If you have enough CFLs this can be very rewarding. Check out Micro-growing.

I believe you could get away with a 250w hps in that space so it wouldnt get too hot in there.. I use a 150w with cfls as side lighting..
Yeah I was reading a lot about lighting and I figured this would work nicely as well. My room has an air conditioner that can get the room temp close to 0 Celcius so cooling is not really an issue because the intake fan would be delivering cool cool air into the grow chamber.
My dad taught me a lot about carpentry and woodworking so I'm in the process of building a airtight/light proof grow box which would fit perfectly inside my closet. There is two holes for intake fans at the bottom and the exhaust fan at the very top.

Too Bad, it's a challenging size but definitly Do-able! How about 3 T-5's in the upper portion to veg clones to 5-6 inches. Then under use a 250 watt HID or 175 watt even. Start them flowering after first branching in veg space. Grow a mother somewhere else...your Mom's closet maybe? Your bathroom? Hey if she 'REALLY' loves you huh?This is the best I can do in terms of more space:
I decided to trash the whole stealth idea my mom is going to find it anyway. She knows I smoke and is ok with it. She's not an ignorant person so I am quite sure she will be ok with it when I explain to her the benefits. (Free weed, The "you know what they put in the weed that you buy from a dealer blah blah" etc.)

Nutes are necessary yes, any place that has a gardenin section...some are water soluble...whenever is recommended by producer..you will have to get an old pwer cord from a comp or something with 3 prong and cut the end that doesnt plug into a wall, strip the wires, rewire and plug inUpdate to dead thread

Ah i see.
I just got back from home depot with some good ol' potting soil and some perlite. Although the soil has some fertilizers in it. I heard that it is best to let the plant use the fertilizers already in the soil then start feeding the nutes 2 weeks into veg state once the plant has used up all the soils nutes.

I saw a post earlier in this thread, smell is a definite on the list, if you go 250hps it will be noticibly warmer in your room, unless you vent to the ceiling or outside. If you go CFL the heat is not really an issue.

I bought 8 26W CFL's for two plants
I plan to mix it this way:
3 6500K CFL's and 1 2700k CFL/per plant for the veg period.
3 2700k CFL's and 1 6500k CFL/per plant during flowering.
For the smell I'm going to build a carbon filter inspired from a design I found on this forum.

Just wanna add that the PC fans run on +12V. Instead of going through the hassle of butchering a PC power supply, just get a 12V transformer at any hobby shop or whatever (they are used to charge the batteries for nitro engine starters, glow ignitors, etc) and that should power all the fans you need. good luck on your grow, i'm envious of your space. My studio has NO crevices of any kind. I'm also making a cabinet to custom fit my room.
P.S.
I also wanna add (after carefully reading LastJuror's post) DO NOT do as he specified. Doing so will supply 120/220v (depending where you are) straight into your fans and burn every one of them.
Home depot carries those adapters as well as the Y-splitters you'll need. The adapters you're looking for might not be plug-ins but might need to be wired manually. this is no biggie, as a couple of yards of 14 or 12 gauge wire will do the trick (also available at home de-poo).

just a little side note for you... you can use an old cell phone charger to power tha pc fans. just clip the adapter end off and wire up the 2 wires to the fan plug in and your good too go. Just make sure its a 12v charger. i had 4 of um done that way on my closet cfl grow. i vegd 2 plants under 3 42w bright white cfls and flowered under 2 26w soft white and 2 26w bright whites. Came out great yeild of about an ounce. temps around 79 degrees. Hope that this helps you man.
