Stealth Cabinet - Hawaiian Snow, Lemon Skunk, White Rhino _DWC_2x125w CFL

Ok Hi there folks,

This is a small grow for personal use I started mid-way through August.

Come along for the ride bitches, join in or just watch. Any friendly advice is appreciated and just maybe someone will find this interesting, usefull or helpful as I have found so many of you guys to be. :-o:-P:clap:

Curently at Day 40 from seed, I'll give you a run down of the story so far. With lots of pictures.

1st Indoor Grow

Ingredients:-
1 second-hand chest of drawers
2m of mylar
1 DWC system
2 x 125w Envirolite CFL's
2 x 120mm ultra silent pc case fans
1 USB powered desk fan
Pack of 5 seeds from the Greenhouse Seed Co.
Some timers, powerboards, cords and an assortment of bits and bobs and shite.

All of this I sourced either online or from the local hardware, hydroponic and one pound stores, with the help of good buddy. Ive lost count but I estimate this all to have cost me somewhere between £150-£200 so far.

So first there was a chest of drawers.

Look at that tiny wee baby girl!

HS DAY 3 (2).JPGHS DAY 01 (3).JPG

For the first few weeks I was busy at work, and being a lazy arsehole had been neglecting her. You can see from early on she had developed some burn on the tips of 2 young leaves.
HS DAY 22 (1).JPGHS DAY 22.JPGHS DAY 22 (2).JPGHS DAY 10 (2).JPG
HS DAY 32.JPGHS DAY 27.JPG
Temps inside at the time were way too high, up around 38C and she was being fed with unbalanced tap water which I have now found to be up around 7 to 7.5

Over the coming days the burn continued to consume leaves and was spreading, she looked increasingly pale and deficient. I installed an extra ventilation fan and an internal fan and balanced the water to 5.5
The sickness continued and im still not sure whether it was the water, the temps, the lights being to close or any other number of environmental factors.

Still very small at this point growth had slowed to practically nothing, I was convinced she was just going to die on me. In a large ditch effort to salvage her I decided to start feeding her despite her tiny size, perhaps I should have done it earlier but I was affraid of nute burn on such a small plant. Haha, is it ironic that she was burning anyway?
So half strength nutes it was, and because Im an impulsive retard I threw the White Rhino and Lemon Skunk into some damp rockwool as a precaution if the Hawaiian Snow bit the dust.
Now at day 40, and much to my suprise the Hawaiian Snow has not only bounced back but she is kicking the fuck off! New growth has shot nearly 3cm in 2 days and all except the worst affected leaves which I trimmed back are now a deep healthy green.

Oh, and those back up seeds I definately thought I would need to replace a dead Hawaiian
THREE IS A CROWD (1).JPGTHREE IS A CROWD (2).JPGTHREE IS A CROWD.JPG
Sexy wee thangs!!

The problems I'm now posed with is can I fit all three in my box? and how will the difference in age affect how I should feed them if I do.
Any suggestions??
At this point I will also point out that I dont really have any idea what I'm doing, winging it from guess work and what I've learnt from everyone here at rollitup.

Peace out for now dudes.

I dismantled the drawers and constructed a door from their fronts. Thats it in the pic up top. It leaks a little light from the inside out but its only noticable at night.

That thing is awesome, dude. I can't believe you did that to your poor dresser. Lol.

That thing has great potential for a 400w hid in a cooltube. If you can manage to cut two four inch diameter holes strategically, you can enclose an hid in a tube housing, connecting the two holes with ducting. A strong inline fan mounted at one of these holes will constantly blow over your bulb which will then exhaust out the other hole. The bulb would have its own environment with constant heat removal. And the ridiculously short distance the fan's wind would have to travel should keep a 400w bulb very cool indeed. That should manage the heat even in that dresser enclosure. I can imagine what an hid would do in that tiny box. It could be freakish. You could still get decent results with that fluoro, but wouldn't you rather have freakish?

A lot of growers are focused on burning lotsa lights to illuminate a large space. I'm more obsessed with trapping as much light in as small a space as possible. If you don't have tons of space and need to go compact stealth, capturing the light intensity in a small area is a great way to get bud quality to rival the big boys growing rows of plants in a concrete bunker.

if you can fit the other two do, id feed em the same, top and lst them around each other to make the most of your space.

light wise a 400 in a cooltube is defo an option, so is a 250 if your short on cash, a 250 and 2-3 plants will be a great return, probably better bang for busk then a 400.

Yeah, he's gonna have to do something. Now way he can just let the plants grow wild straight up in that thing.

Thanks dudes.
Stealth isnt really a massive issue, I just thought it was a neat idea. Yeah I could seal the leaks but theyre not a problem, and once again im a lazy bastard.
I did consider hid and wee cool tube, more seriously in fact was I considering led. But at the end of the day, CFL does a fine job and its massively cheaper to setup and run. Sure, I would love a pro setup where I could grow some gnarly trees, but like I say, its a small grow for my own use. Even if these little guys only throw me 1oz each, I will have covered my investment and be a very happy camper.

If I had more time I would buy another waterfarm. 2 would fit perfectly snug inside and there would be loads of room for everone, nice fat root balls and no feeding schedule issues. Im afraid those little guys wont wait that long though.

I had a look at your diablo og (very impressive btw), but what inspired me was the pics in your 2nd post. I will put the seedlings in oposite corners and LST them along the edge of the basket. The Hawaiian I will have to tie down from either side or perhaps I should try to scrog all 3?? Either way we shall find out, thanks again for the support and stay posted. More pics soon.

Peace mother fuckers!

Getttin a little trigger happy. More pics as promised.

Dropped in both the seedlings, very excited about things now! And the HS is continuing to thrive, this morning I see fresh new growth at every single node. This little baby doesn't even look like the same plant from a week ago!
Happy days :)

I'm not sure about the plants, but that knee in pic 2 is pretty sexy.

Seriously good grow, dudeson. I'm salivating at the thought of your grow in a couple months. Amazing turnaround. +rep.

Hawaiian Snow day 44, White Rhino and Lemon Skunk day 5

Everything going pretty well but worried the hs is going todominate the space, will the skunk and the rhino be ready to flower before the snow gets too big?

Anyway, we shall see. Now, first up props to this guy.

Very good read, so good i tried it straight away on the Hawaiian Snow. Seems to have worked perfectly if you overlook the fact I accidentally broke off a wee fan leaf in the process. Unfortunate, but not a disaster.

In this pic you can see what I have done is pinched out (a process call fimming by some) the growing tip of the plant. Similar to topping this should hopefully result in more lateral growth and possibly up to 4 heads.

HS DAY 44 (2).JPGHS DAY 44 (3).JPGHS DAY 44 (1).JPG
Couple more, she is healthy and isnt showing any signs of shock, Ive also introduced her to some lst in an effort to let each plant share a 3 of the growing space.

Peace.

HS DAY 49, LS and WR DAY 10

Hawaiian has responded well to being topped/fimmed or pinched or whatever you wanna call it. She is starting to bulk out a little and has a nice bend to keep her low thanks to some LST in an effort to let the seedlings catch up to her. Ive switched over to the airstone and removed the drip feeder as the hawaiians roots are well into the res now, hopefully there will be room enough for the roots of all three. Still hand watering the seedlings for now with Ph'd water, feeding the HS with 3/4 strenght nutes.

Ran out of Ph'd water a few days ago, was in a hurry and no time so watered the seedlings straight from the tap (usually between 6.5 and 7). Hasnt seemed to affect the skunk however, the White Rhino is starting to yellow between the ribs of her leaves, there is a scientific name for this but it eludes me. Hopefully this will pass now im back to feeding her with water at 5.5

What are those wires around your tiny seedlings? It's too early to start training those. I'm also not sure about the idea of having more than one plant in one planter... especially if there is such a dramatic size difference between plants. I don't think it's too late to separate them if you can.
