Starting seed Trouble

Hi everyone. Glad to be here. I am an absolute newbie to this whole scene so please don't be too tough on me. Hopefully you can tell me what I'm doing wrong or pass along some good advice.

I have read a number of grow guides and things seem to be pretty straightforward. I have tried this with a dozen seeds so far with no success. Got the seeds to begin germinating using the paper towel method. After the root tips show in a couple of days, I plant them in already moistened Jiffy seed starters about 1/2 inch deep. These are kept in a humidity dome which is in a darkened room that is a constant 72 degrees. I make sure the seed starters are kept moist, not overly wet. But after 12 days, I have got nothing. I am beginning to get depressed.

Can anyone spot what I'm doing wrong? I would be forever grateful for any help!

I just go from paper towel to soil. Put the about 1/2 inch deep. I have only used the starters for clones. Keep your soil moist "like a sponge" and they should grow. 72 may also be a bit cool. I live in AZ, so I don't have the luxury of those temps :p

"sometimes" it can take upto 2 weeks before the seed will pop above the soil due to all the seeds energy going into the tap root (the 1st main root) all i can advise is try gently pop the jiffy pod open and see what's going on but i would give it another 3/4 days before popping it open if you pop it open and do see a long main root its alive and put it in another jiffy pod (GENTLY) make the hole bigger than the root

I agree with avenull go from paper towel to soil starters stay to moist and drown the roots, just keep soil damp till you see your little laddies sprout up. good luck

Get it a warmer. I shoot at 80deg and sprout in 2days under a T-5. Also I just soak in cup of water 12hrs and then straight in soil(light warrior or a weak mix). Get 100% results I can't remember when I couldn't pop a seed.

Thanks everybody for the feedback. The 72 degrees is because of A/C, but if I use one of those plant warmers that should get the temperature up. I started a couple more seeds and will go directly to soil - I'll be using Miracle Gro. Thanks again.

Don't use that 2 start seeds.....Is it hard for you to get good soil? If so you must live driving distance from menards or lowes?
Sorry I shouldn't say straight in soil I usually blend up some seed mix and pro-mix, or light warrior mixed with some happy frog. You don't want nutes right now just water and a light mix for seeds. Use a party cup when you plant........when you get a seedling use only water and in a couple weeks transplant into good soil and keep watering for a bit then bring the nutes slow in.

I tend to make things too difficult. Seeds have been working forever without intervention. I read the sprouts pages: soak/ rinse multiple times. If something refuses do not give up experiment. A quarter of an asprin to a gallon of water to soak resistant seeds: they are duds correct? There are several commercial starters for transplants and rooting, my experience soaking, they can cause stretch but it will germinate. If everything worked for every body no one would fail?
