Starting my first grow, Please Help!

Hey, I am starting my first grow soon and have a few questions concerning my grow tent setup.
Please let me know what you think.

Tent: 2.5 x 2.5 (6ft tall)

Light: 400w HPS/MH

Ventilation: Grow Brigh 4' inline fan with 4' pure flow carbon filter.

Growing medium: I will growing 4 plants each within its own 5 gallon bubble bucket.

Basically I would like to know if a 400w will be enough for 4 plants and if I need to compensate for the lower branches with a a few cfl? Also what should I expect for an average yield? Will topping them be beneficial?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I'm gonna be scrogging 2 5gal dwc in a 4x4x6 400w cab. I bet most ppl will say to do the same, scrog or lst. But I'm a noob, that's just what the general consensus seems like. Good luck bro!

I use a 400w in my 2x4x5 tent. In general, with H.I.D. lights you want to aim for 50w per sq. ft. 2.5x2.5=6.25 400/6.25=64w per sq. ft. In other words, your golden.
Happy Growing.

Deucetrain,

400w is ok to start, you cat get nice buds, my advice is ... get good pots, air-pot are great, some ppl invest a lot in the setup but no in the pots.
Root pruning pots are and the pots are cheap and realy help, you get bigger plants in the same space.

Topping is ok in some strains and bad in others and for sure a topped plant need more time... for the first times dont prune,
let the plant alone and learn first.

peace,

If you plan on enlargeing your grow space in the future, maybe buy a larger light now. If your going to keep that space, 400w is all you'll ever need. Topping is fine with any strain, unless it's an autoflower. Topping will make the grow take longer, but your also increasing bud sites which means a bigger harvest at the end. It depends on whether your going for speed or quantity. I do agree on the pots. I like fabric pots myself, infact I use the Phat Sacs they sell at HTGSupply.com 2 gal. size works for me. When your done, take them up to your local laundrmat and give them a wash. I don't advise ueing your own washer as the dirt may cause clogs.
