starting autos in a one gal pot?

will it stunt the root growth if I leave them in one gallon containers until they show sex?:confused:
planning on transfering to 5 gals after...
 
hi, from what ive read you should start your autos in the pot they will finish in..


ive been doing alot of research, currently have a purple kush girl down, but ive got some il diavolo beans from Delicious seeds that are going down next month.
 
I thought i'd do the same for an indoor experience, but now i'm putting it on a 3/4 gal pot (i'll try others outdoor as well but on bed).

To be honest i found those pots really cheap, so you won't have to transplant it later.
 
thanks for the fast replies. I guess the question now is actually when to transplant since they are already in the one gals... I mixed some kelp meal into the final 5 gal pots so that's why i didn't start em in those

I would transplant now. In the future 5 gallon buckets is wicked overkill for autos. 3 gallons is more than you need.
 
thats what i figured, honestly i have a purple kush girl in a 3 gal pot right now, and shes doing fine. when my autos go down i may use 2 gal so i can fit two more in my tent
 
I run all my photos in 3 gal. bags with no problems at all so an auto will be more than happy with 3 gallons.
 
I start mine in big plastic McD's drink glasses until they show sex then girls go into 2gal pots of supersoil...
 
I'm growing a Pak Ryder right now and have transplanted a few times without any noticable stress...
IN addition, the recent transplant went from a 2 gallon to 3.5 gallon... I had roots sticking out the bottom of the 2 gallon and am expecting roots from the 3.5 in a week or two.
This is my first grow and the autos grow crazy.... they could easily fitll a 5 gallon... no doubt about it.
And why not give them extra room rather than root bounding them??

Good to hear. Hopefully these blue himilayas show their sex quickly so I can just go from 1 to 5 gallon
 
u really don't want to x-plant autos as most people have stated already. it creates some stress and will most likely affect yield, growth etc. just start them in whatever pot size you want but 3 gallon pots work great. no crowding of the roots, i also think the plant is healthier and probably produces more than if you grew them in 1 or 2 gallon pots. Ours are in five gallon pots 3/4 full and they look incredible, tall, lush and dark green. so they must be happy.

thanks for the advise everyone. Ill definitely start them in the final pot next time, but for the sake of the thread and in reference to the original question_ ...

will transplanting them into the final pots filled with HP promix and kelp meal(@ 1tlbs per gal of soil) cause the seedling to suffer nute burn?

I'm just wondering how long I should wait to transplant since they are already started in the 1gal pots...or is that just a judgment call at this point since I kinda screwed up?
 
i use 4x4 pots then 1 gal pots for photo period plants in sog setup. the 1 gal are plenty big enough if your going straight into flower as soon as you put them in if i was gonna veg and flower to the end i would use a 3 gal pot because when you flower those roots that have been vegging in a 1 gal are gonna spread quick in the 3 gal you have a chance of the root not getting to far before flowering
