I have had 100% success rate with coco pucks. no pre soaking the seed no paper towel nothing. just add water to the pucks and make a 1/4 inch deep hole. drop the seeds in and cover it up. 2-5 days later this is what they look like

I was just curious if you like using a root riot cube or a jiffy pellet for starting seeds?
I have been using the burpee tray with the mat that wicks up water and keeps them perfectly watered for ten days. I have since been popping the rooting cubes before the coco pucks you soak in water and expand in the whole. Heating mat under that guy stick the stick the dome on and check them in a few days and I have like a 99% success rate. So long as the seeds are good from the get go. It's so much better than the paper towel method or any of that mess. I get much stronger roots and less chance of damaging the tap root after they pop.

I am of the opinion that going straight into a medium is the quickest and most foolproof method. I just drop mine in the hole of a pre soaked rockwool cube, if you're going into soil a small cup of worm castings is fantastic.

I stumbled across some interesting information while researching feminized cannabis seeds. Dutch Passion Seed Company compiled a lot of information while stabilizing their first round of feminized seeds, some of which can be applied to regular cannabis seeds. I have had a great female to male ratio sprouting in FFOF under T5s with blue bulbs.

"From literature and our own findings it appears that the growth of a male or female plant from seed, except for the predisposition in the gender chromosomes, also depends on various environmental factors. The environmental factors that influence gender are:

• a higher nitrogen concentration will give more females.
• a higher potassium concentration will give more males.
• a higher humidity will give more females.
• a lower temperature will give more females.
• more blue light will give more females.
• Fewer hours of light will give more females.

It is important to start these changes at the three-pairs-of-leaves stage and continue for two or three weeks, before reverting to standard conditions."

I started out using Rockwood cubes, tried jiffy pellets, and finally settled on going directly into soil. I've had good success with all three, so I settled on the soil method for ease. I'm only speaking from 6 grows, but I don't have the vision or steady hands to sow seeds with tap roots showing. (Paper plate method)

I soak the seeds in non chlorinated water in a dark room until they sink (8 hours or so), then drop directly into solo cups filled with moist Happy Frog soil. I sow the seeds about two seed width deep, spray the top soil with water, then place baggies over the tops of the cups to create a mini greenhouse. I put my two foot T5s about 2 inches above the bags for heat and let them go. Just popped 5 out of 5 this week.

Just my preference.
