My 2cents.
You're going to need much bigger pots. 10 gal minimum IMO, and extra large tomato cages
They'll probably stay "compacted" as they grow & you'll need to thin them occasionally.
Last years auto's filled 25gal pots.

They were getting transplanted to 5 gallons before 10

Again, just my opinion, skip the 5gal & go directly into the 10 gallon pots
