Start in small pots?

When growing in soil do i have to start in small pots then transfer to bigger ones or can i just start in pots that are big enough for the plants in the first place?

if you start in big pots, just don't fill them all the way up with soil right away..fill it maybe 2/3 of the way full. you'll want to be able to put more soil over the stem.

i started my sprouts in 8" pots then after two weeks or so i move them to the 5 gal. buckets that i finish growing in.
