Stability of strains, emergency backup seeds

Not sure if this is the right forum, please let me know...

Hi all, I'm wondering if I order seeds for a well known strain from a reputable source like Pick N' Mix, let's say Strawberry Cough, and keep a male and a female specifically to breed to each other to have backup seeds in case of a problem, will the seeds be a random collection of traits or true to the original.

I'm guessing if they are selling the seeds for a strain it must be pretty stable or the customers would end up with all different manner of plants but I thought I would ask to be sure.

It depends if they're F2 beans or F4. You'll get more variation with F2s. I'd suggest learning how to clone as clones will produce a better product down the road and seeds are a crap-shoot at best.
